"The mother he wants is Marie. The best gift I can give him is my absence, so the three of you can have a wonderful time at his party."
Natalie turned to leave, but Darren grabbed her arm tightly.
"How long are you going to keep this up? Are you really going to push things until there's no turning back? Is that crippled man really that great?"
Natalie glared at him. "I'm just working for the Lockwood family. And Mr. Lockwood is my benefactor. I won't allow you to speak ill of him."
"You can't even stand me saying one thing about him? And you claim you don't care about him?"
"I never said I don't care about him. He's my benefactor. Why shouldn't I care?"
Darren was fuming.
"No matter how great he is, his legs are useless. He's a cripple. How am I any worse than him? The Lockwood family may be richer than the Cross family now, but I'll surpass him one day. You'll regret the words you're saying right now!"
"Whether you surpass him or not, I don't know. But I do know he won't be in a wheelchair forever. I'm going to help him stand again. And when he does, you'll see you can never compare to him."
"You're going to make him walk again? And make his mute daughter speak? Natalie, aren't you overestimating yourself a little? Are you trying to be their personal genie?"
"Being a genie for the Lockwood family is better than being a maid for you at the Cross family, isn't it?"
Her eyes were cold and distant. Enraged, Darren tightened his grip on her arm, refusing to let go.
"Darren, get your hands off her. Don't dirty Natalie's hands."
Terence appeared suddenly, his voice low and laced with a terrifying chill.
Darren released her, though his reluctance was obvious.
"I thought he was an adult who understood that our divorce meant we were done. I didn't realize he was so shameless! I'll let you know next time I go out."
Natalie's tone matched Terence's gentle one, and the look they shared was tender, like that of a real couple.
She was doing it on purpose, having caught the hint in his eyes.
Darren was angry. When had their relationship progressed so quickly?
A faint smile played on Terence's lips. Natalie was a smart woman.
He glanced at Darren and said coolly, "If he could tell right from wrong, he wouldn't have cheated on you with his sister-in-law."
The insult boomeranged right back at him. Darren said angrily, "Terence, you know nothing about what happened between me and Marie!"

Time for Marie to get her end, this has gone on way too long, time to move on. It’s getting boring....
Payback time. Waiting for chapters 321 onwards!...
I love the sarcastic comebacks. Quite amusing!...
