Her gaze was fixed on Terence in the passenger seat. Was this man genuinely interested in her daughter? It was a shame his legs were crippled.
"Natalie," Terence said, "your mother can stay at the Lockwood estate for now. You have a sister, don't you?"
Natalie had a younger sister in college. With Kate gone, her sister couldn't be left there either.
Kate spoke up, "Mr. Lockwood, I shouldn't go to the Lockwood estate. I have to go back and take care of him. He's injured, and if he... bleeds too much... it wouldn't be good."
Kate was still worried that Martin Doyle might die.
"He beat you like this, and you're still worried about him?"
"Isn't that just a woman's lot in life? For better or for worse, a life of bickering and making do."
Hearing her mother's words, Natalie felt a wave of despair.
Terence said, "While I can't understand your perspective, I respect it. You can choose the life you want, but please don't influence Natalie."
Terence was afraid that Kate's toxic, old-fashioned ideas would influence Natalie, making her consider reconciling with Darren.
After all, Kate had been the one to help Darren set up the meeting with Natalie.
He had identified her... as not an ally.
Kate looked a little embarrassed. Just then, the luxury car pulled into the grand Lockwood estate.
Kate was stunned. The place was magnificent.
Terence instructed the butler to get Kate settled. Once Terence was out of earshot, Kate turned to Natalie.
Kate suddenly became agitated. "Natalie, since you understand this yourself, you must listen to me."
"Listen to you about what? Reconciling with Darren? Impossible!"
Natalie's tone was final. Knowing she couldn't persuade her, Kate could only sigh.
After a long silence, she said suddenly, "I'm just a little sad right now. I saw Patrick on TV. He's become the youngest academician in Aurelis, so young and successful. And I hear he's not married yet. He probably can't forget you. He's so devoted."
"Mom, Patrick is a researcher. He just doesn't have time to get married. You don't need to read so much into it. Besides, there was never anything between us."
"I really regret it now. I should have stopped your father from causing trouble at the Helios Institute for Advanced Minds. I failed to stop him. If you hadn't left the institute back then, maybe you and him..."
"What do you mean you didn't stop him from causing trouble? You were hospitalized because of it, with two broken ribs."

Time for Marie to get her end, this has gone on way too long, time to move on. It’s getting boring....
Payback time. Waiting for chapters 321 onwards!...
I love the sarcastic comebacks. Quite amusing!...
