“So you’re saying I just took someone’s gift for nothing?”
Mrs. Lockwood rubbed her forehead. This old woman was impossible to please. Just then, Old Mrs. Lockwood picked up the “Emerald Seraph” bracelet from the table and said to Natalie, “I’m not taking your things for free, either. Let’s do an even trade. This is for you.”
Natalie was instantly dumbfounded. She was being given an imperial violet jade bracelet? Mrs. Lockwood was even more stunned.
“Mom, did you bring a fake out with you today? This is your most treasured ‘Emerald Seraph’ bracelet.”
“A fake? Do you hear the nonsense you’re spouting?”
“My apologies, my apologies.”
“If I didn’t offer something genuine, you’d accuse me of taking advantage of her.”
“But this is a bit too generous, don’t you think?”
Natalie quickly interjected, “This bracelet is far too valuable. I really can’t accept it.”
“I’m giving this to you as a reminder that you must defeat the contestant from Ravencia. Consider it my incentive. Do you understand?”
For Old Mrs. Lockwood’s generation, the hatred for Ravencia was etched into their very bones, passed down through the years.
“I will definitely win, you can rest assured. But I truly cannot accept this. It’s a piece that could be passed down for generations; it’s simply too precious.”
The “Emerald Seraph” bracelet was the kind of heirloom that could be passed down as a family treasure. How could Natalie dare to accept it?
“Since you know it’s a legacy piece, you should take good care of it. Or would you rather I give it to this reckless woman, who’d probably wear it to a nightclub and get it smashed?”
Mrs. Lockwood flushed with embarrassment. The jab was clearly aimed at her.
“Don’t be fooled by her wild behavior. She’s actually very fragile inside. When my son passed away, she tried to kill herself three times. I found her each time.”
The old woman recalled pushing open the bathroom door to find her daughter-in-law lying in a bathtub full of blood. She thought she wouldn't make it, but she believed her son must have been watching over her, allowing her to survive.
Natalie was stunned. She couldn’t imagine someone like Mrs. Lockwood attempting suicide. Was it because the pain of losing a loved one was too much to bear?
“She failed all three times. I told her it was because my son was in the afterlife, begging on his knees for the powers that be not to take her.”
“I told her to stop torturing herself. My son was such a proud man; he would never bow his head to anyone. I told her not to let him be looked down upon in the afterlife. After that, she stopped trying. She said she wanted to live a happy life, just as her son would have wanted her to.”
Hearing this, Natalie’s heart ached. True love really did exist in this world. Why could some love transcend life and death, while people who were still together chose to cheat?
The thought of Darren cheating on her with Marie still sent a pang of pain through her heart.

Time for Marie to get her end, this has gone on way too long, time to move on. It’s getting boring....
Payback time. Waiting for chapters 321 onwards!...
I love the sarcastic comebacks. Quite amusing!...
