Caught Him Cheating My Life Restarted (Natalie) novel Chapter 245

She and Terence were an impossible match.

“What are you thinking about? Grandma has accepted you. Aren’t you happy?” Terence’s voice was deep, with a magnetic quality that was hard to resist.

Natalie collected herself. “As the Lockwood family’s physician, I’m naturally happy to have satisfied my employer.”

She quickly re-established her position. She wasn’t greedy and wouldn’t reach for things that didn’t belong to her.

Terence’s brow furrowed.

“Who said your employer is satisfied? I’m not.”

Terence looked at her intently. She was such an intelligent woman; how could she not understand how they all felt about her? They all wanted her to be family, but she was the one refusing to accept it. An employer? Did she really see herself as nothing more than a servant in their house?

“If you’re dissatisfied with something, sir, I can change.”

A flicker of anger crossed Terence’s deep-set eyes.

“Stop being so accommodating, stop walking on eggshells, and stop being so evasive.”

Natalie frowned slightly. Suddenly, Terence grabbed her uninjured right hand and pulled her onto his lap. Caught by surprise, she fell into his embrace. In that instant, the warm, sun-like scent of him filled her senses. The comforting warmth made her feel safe, and for a moment, she forgot to stand up.

Their eyes met. Her usually calm, placid eyes finally showed a reaction. That was enough to extinguish Terence’s anger. His deep eyes held a hint of allure as he said, “You’re injured. You can rest in my arms.”

His words snapped Natalie back to reality.

“No, thank you. Only my hand is injured. I can walk.”

She shot up as if electrocuted. Once, she had believed Darren would be her salvation and support. But now she understood that no one could be her savior. She wouldn’t let herself fall into another trap.

Natalie said nonchalantly, “I’m just a workhorse. Workhorses don’t need rest. You can rest assured.”

Her expression was calm, as if he had never held her, or as if she had simply taken his embrace as a common courtesy.

“Don’t worry,” Terence said. “I’ve already sent people to look for her.”

“I can’t wait. I have to go back. I’m sorry, I can’t join you for dinner.”

Natalie turned to leave, ignoring her own injury. Just then, Terence received an update about her mother.

“We’ve found your mother. She’s at…”

Before Terence could finish, the call Natalie had been dialing was finally answered.

“Mom, are you okay?”

“Your mother is fine. The doctor was just changing her dressing.”

The voice belonged to Darren.
