“You won’t admit it? It doesn’t matter if you do or not. I don’t care if anything happened between you two. My head is clear now, and I’m done letting you manipulate me. I’m not coming back, and I couldn’t care less if you and your Marie did something sordid.”
Natalie finished and turned to lead her mother away, but her mother suddenly cried out in pain.
“It hurts, it hurts so much.”
“Mom, what’s wrong?”
“My leg is injured. I can’t walk.”
Darren said to Natalie, “Your mom’s leg is hurt. She can’t walk. The doctor said she needs to rest and be hospitalized for a while.”
Natalie’s patience wore thin. “Darren, we’re divorced. Don’t call her that. You never called her ‘Mom’ so affectionately when we were married. What’s the point now?”
Darren had never called Kate ‘Mom’ before. The fact that he was only doing it now that they were divorced struck Natalie as ridiculous.
“Didn’t you used to look down on her? Why the sudden attempt to be so down-to-earth?”
Darren’s face darkened. He had, in fact, looked down on Kate and her daughter. Coming from a wealthy family, he felt a woman from the countryside wasn’t worthy of such a respectful title. Now, he was humbling himself, forcing himself to call her ‘Mom,’ only for Natalie to mock him. He was furious, and it showed on his face.
Seeing the tension, Kate immediately started chiding Natalie.
“Natalie, how can you talk like that? Darren is an important man, the heir to a great family. For someone like me from the country, it’s enough that he shows me any respect at all. The title doesn’t matter. Besides, the fact that he’s willing to call me ‘Mom’ now shows that he cares about you, that he wants to win you back. You shouldn’t be so… ungrateful!”
Ungrateful? Now she was the ungrateful one.
Kate then turned to Darren. “Darren, don’t be angry with her. You two should talk things out.”
With that, Kate quickly left the hospital room to give them some space.
Natalie was speechless. A moment ago, her mother claimed her leg was too injured to walk, and now she was moving that fast?
“Don’t worry, Mom,” Darren called after her. “We’ll have a good talk.”
The more Darren spoke of the men flocking around Natalie, the angrier and more agitated he became.
His attitude was harsh, but Natalie just let out a cold laugh. She looked him in the eye, her expression serious but with a hint of defiance.
“Fine, you’re offering me a way out? Okay, I’ll take it. But I don’t see the olive branch I’m looking for.”
Natalie had finally stopped arguing with him, and Darren’s expression softened slightly.
“What exactly do you want me to do?” he asked. “As long as it’s reasonable, I can agree.”
“Today, Martin Doyle used my mother to call me and try to get me to miss the competition. It was Marie who bribed him, who put him up to it.”
Darren frowned. He had his suspicions, but he had no concrete proof.
“Are you sure it was Marie?”

Time for Marie to get her end, this has gone on way too long, time to move on. It’s getting boring....
Payback time. Waiting for chapters 321 onwards!...
I love the sarcastic comebacks. Quite amusing!...
