Natalie had silently endured all of Marie’s taunts. She hadn’t wanted any of those things; all she had wanted was Darren’s heart and a happy little family. Only now did she realize how foolish and naive she had been.
“Are you done? Can you get out now?”
Natalie’s voice was cold, devoid of the anger Victoria had expected. She was already divorced from Darren. Why would she care about any of this anymore?
Mrs. Lockwood’s heart ached for her. To be treated so differently… Natalie must have suffered terribly in that family. And now this woman had the gall to come here and mock her so openly. It was shameless to the extreme.
Victoria had expected Natalie to get angry, to lash out. Seeing her rage would have been satisfying. But instead, Natalie was completely detached and was telling her to leave.
Seeing Victoria at a loss, Mrs. Lockwood raised an eyebrow. “You need to get your daughter-in-law Marie a custom gown, jewelry, and book a venue? Didn’t you just say you already gave her all those things? Why are you doing it all over again?”
Victoria’s face soured. “Don’t you know exactly why, you little brat?”
Mrs. Lockwood feigned a look of realization. “Oh, right, my mistake. I forgot. The first time was for your older son, and now it’s for your younger son. Your family is… fascinating.”
Victoria’s expression grew even uglier. Mrs. Lockwood looked her up and down, suppressing a laugh. “You don’t seem like a very generous person. Throwing two weddings for the same woman, spending all that money… doesn’t it feel like a waste?”
Her skin crawling, Mrs. Lockwood turned to Natalie. “Do you have any anti-nausea medicine? I can’t believe the words coming out of her mouth. ‘The apple of my eye’? I think I’m going to be sick.”
“I think you’re just jealous,” Victoria retorted. “Women like you, from such low backgrounds, could never be loved by your in-laws. You could never be the apple of your mother-in-law’s eye. You can only watch and be jealous.”
As Victoria grew more smug, Mrs. Lockwood was too disgusted to speak. Natalie, however, remained cold. “If you want to give Marie the wedding of the century, a designer gown, and a mountain of gold, that’s your business. But don’t mistake politeness for permission to act like you’re somebody special.”
“You…” Victoria was livid. Then, her expression shifted into a malicious sneer. “Natalie, I came here with good intentions, to share my good fortune with you. Why are you so angry? Is it because you still have feelings for my son…?”

Time for Marie to get her end, this has gone on way too long, time to move on. It’s getting boring....
Payback time. Waiting for chapters 321 onwards!...
I love the sarcastic comebacks. Quite amusing!...
