Why did she just take it? Did he still get to put the ring on her himself?
Still, if she took his ring, it must mean she was willing to forgive him.
Darren let out a sigh of relief. He said, "I knew your feelings for me couldn't just disappear that easily. You couldn't just give up. Let me put this ring on you. Let's spend the rest of our lives together, okay?"
Just then, the drones formed a new picture: a girl reading a book under a tree as a handsome boy walked by.
Then it changed into another line of text.
[I know you used to watch me when you thought I wasn't looking. I know your feelings for me started a long time ago. I was too proud, too arrogant. I only realized my mistake after I lost you, and now I regret it. I just hope you'll give me one more chance. Can we spend the rest of our lives together?]
The crowd on the sidewalk cheered louder. A spectacular drone show combined with such a heartfelt confession—who could resist that?
Natalie looked at the sparkling diamond in her hand, then at the drones spelling out confessions in the night sky.
It was all quite a performance.
"Is this ring real or fake?"
Natalie's casual question was completely out of place.
Darren froze. He never expected her to ask that. How could he possibly give her a fake ring? Besides, she had never been a materialistic person. Why would she ask such a thing?
Was she more concerned about the ring's authenticity than his sincerity?
"Of course it's real. As real as my heart for you."
Natalie clapped a hand on the shoulder of the still-kneeling Darren.
Passing down a ring with their names to his and Marie's children? How awkward would that be?
Future generations would probably remark on how complicated their ancestors were.
"Why are you… still so hung up on her?"
"Weren't you the one who said Marie was the priority, that everything should revolve around her?"
Natalie was mocking him. Darren said, "I'm sorry. My intention was only to make sure my widowed sister-in-law was treated well in the Cross family. But I forgot that you had no obligation to take on our family's responsibility of caring for her."
He had only been afraid that Natalie would bully the widowed Marie, so he constantly reminded her to defer to Marie.
He had never once considered Natalie's pain, only his fear of letting down his deceased brother.

Time for Marie to get her end, this has gone on way too long, time to move on. It’s getting boring....
Payback time. Waiting for chapters 321 onwards!...
I love the sarcastic comebacks. Quite amusing!...
