"That Lucas kid really is the number one little demon of high society. Nothing good ever comes from getting on his bad side."
"I heard he's already been through nine kindergartens. He turns every school upside down, and they don't dare expel him. He only leaves when he gets bored."
Suddenly, Lucas appeared in front of them in a flash. "What nonsense are you spouting? Don't ruin my image in front of my mommy. I'm a very good boy, you know."
Lucas flashed them a huge, toothy grin, and the gossipers felt a chill run down their spines.
Please don't let him notice us, dear God!
Lucas had come today to buy something for his sister and, incidentally, to do a good deed.
He never expected to run into his mommy here.
If he had known, he would have worn a proper suit.
Lucas quickly returned the used paintbrush to its owner.
"The bristles are still there. Most of them."
Then he handed the inkwell back to its owner.
"Don't cry. There's a little left."
The expressions on the two owners' faces were a spectacular, colorful mess.
Natalie was stunned. This child was truly one of a kind.
Darren's brow furrowed at the unexpected turn of events. What was going on?
That was the Lockwood boy. Why would he call Natalie 'mommy'?
Furious, Darren strode forward. "You're a big boy now, don't you know who your own mother is? She is not your mommy. She's my son's mommy."
Darren's declaration dropped another bomb on the crowd.
What? This woman was Darren's wife?
This charity auction was serving up more drama than they could handle.
But wait, if she was Darren's wife, why didn't she say so when the guards were giving her a hard time?
