Victoria knew Darren did this out of respect for his late brother, to take care of Marie, not because of any lingering romantic feelings.
Just then, Victoria noticed Marie glaring at her.
Victoria replayed what she had just said in her head and realized her mistake.
She had accidentally let the truth slip—that Darren only *respected* her.
Victoria quickly changed her tune. “Marie, Darren has been in love with you for so many years. As his mother, I’ve seen it all. How could he possibly send you away? It’s impossible.”
Marie’s expression softened slightly, though she was still fuming.
“He’s completely bewitched by that witch, Natalie. He’s kicking me out of the Cross family for her, even offering me Cross Group shares as compensation.”
Victoria’s eyes went wide.
She didn’t care whether Darren was really kicking Marie out; her main concern was the shares.
She was hoping to get her hands on the Ward Group’s assets through Marie. Now, not only was that plan failing, but they were also losing their own Cross Group shares. It was a disastrous double loss.
Victoria said with a strained expression, “How could that be? Darren is sending you away and giving you shares? Marie, this is sounding more and more real. I just can’t believe Darren would do that.”
Marie coldly slapped the share transfer agreement on the table.
She said disdainfully, “Still don’t believe me? See for yourself!”
Victoria picked up the document from the table and nearly fainted on the spot.
Marie said with a triumphant yet sinister tone, “Mom, it’s useless for you to take that agreement. Darren has already filed all the paperwork.”
Victoria was even more enraged. That rebellious son of hers! What was he thinking?
Victoria said frantically, “Marie, please don’t take this seriously. I think he’s lost his mind. He’s gone completely insane. How could he try to send you away with company shares?
“This has to be a misunderstanding, just a big misunderstanding. Wait for me. I’ll go teach him a lesson right now and make him come apologize to you personally. Marie, you will always be a daughter-in-law of the Cross family. Always.”
Victoria was so upset she was stumbling over her words.
Watching Victoria’s furious reaction finally brought Marie a sliver of satisfaction.
Although she despised the old hag, she knew Darren was a dutiful son.

Time for Marie to get her end, this has gone on way too long, time to move on. It’s getting boring....
Payback time. Waiting for chapters 321 onwards!...
I love the sarcastic comebacks. Quite amusing!...
