Caught Him Cheating My Life Restarted (Natalie) novel Chapter 302

Hanley immediately grew anxious. “Mommy, why are you so busy now? You used to stay at home and not have to do anything. That was so much better. Why do you have to do so much now? Mommy, I think you should just come home with me.”

For the past five years, she had been a stay-at-home mom for the Cross family, taking care of everyone’s needs, handling all the chores, big and small. Yet in their eyes, she had done nothing.

“It was because I ‘did nothing’ that you and your daddy looked down on me, wasn’t it? Now Mommy needs to support herself, so I have a lot to do. I don’t have time to play your little games.”

“Mommy, how is this a game? It’s my parent-teacher conference. You’re supposed to be there.”

“Why are you so insistent that I go? In the past, you always asked Marie to go to your conferences.”

Natalie's question made Hanley visibly uncomfortable. Before, he thought having Marie, the heiress of the Ward Group, attend would give him more prestige.

But now, his mother was the winner of an international math competition. All the kids had seen how brilliant she was and admired her.

Marie had gone so many times, it wasn't special anymore.

Having his mom show up now would really make him look good. Besides, he’d made a bet with Lucas Lockwood.

“Mommy, I want to proudly introduce you to my classmates as my mother.”

He still wouldn't tell the truth.

“Mommy has to work. I can’t go. You should just ask Marie again. I’ll take you back to school now.”

“Mommy, what kind of lousy job is that? It’s so demanding and tiring. You should quit.”

“Mommy, how did you know? Did Lucas tell you some nonsense?”

“It has nothing to do with him. I have a job, and I have to do it well. I don’t have time for your parent-teacher conference. Besides, your daddy and I are divorced. Your grandmother told the school staff not to let me near you. I can’t attend as your parent.”

“Mommy, I can talk to the teacher and ask her to make an exception. It’s just for a little while.”

“Your teacher might not listen to you. Let’s just drop it.” Natalie patted Hanley’s shoulder. “If I don’t show up, the bet between you two is off. From now on, don’t cause trouble for Lucas and Liana at school.”

Hanley couldn’t control his temper anymore and demanded indignantly, “Mommy, I came all this way to ask you to come to my parent-teacher conference, and you still won’t do it?”

Natalie’s brow furrowed. Darren was the same way. He apologized, so she was obligated to forgive him.
