“No, that’s not it!”
Darren had only said those things that day out of jealousy.
“I just wanted…”
Natalie cut him off before he could finish. “Some things are better left unsaid. Does Marie know you’re like this? Or do you just think I look particularly stupid and easy to fool?”
Anything a man getting married tomorrow had to say to her was just disgusting.
Darren suddenly stepped forward and pulled Natalie into a tight embrace. The alcohol had stripped away his restraint.
“Natalie, how could you be easy to fool? You’re incredibly hard to win over. Nothing I do seems to work.”
In their five years of marriage, Darren had never once tried to console or please Natalie, yet he’d always thought of her as someone easy to satisfy.
But now, no matter how much he apologized, she refused to come back.
“I never thought you’d be the one to find me difficult.”
Natalie’s eyes were blank. For five years, she had been the one catering to him, taking care of his every need.
Had he ever once cared about her feelings?
“Don’t touch me!”
The smell of alcohol on him was overwhelming. Natalie shoved him away with disgust.
Darren lost his balance and stumbled, falling onto the grass.
Natalie looked down at him. “You’re drunk. You should stay put. I’ll call your wife to come get you.”
She was clearly referring to Marie.
Her words stung Darren once again.
He felt a sharp pain in his chest. He knew she was cold and merciless toward him now.
But he didn’t want to give up. He just couldn’t.
“Natalie, what if I told you I only said all those things to provoke you, to make you come back? Would you believe me? In my heart, all I’ve ever wanted is for the three of us to be a family. I’m getting married tomorrow, and then there will be no turning back. I was hoping… that this time, you would be the one to find me. Can you?”
Darren’s eyes were filled with longing. Five years ago, he had found her here and brought her home.
Five years later, now that she had found him, would she take him away?
Looking at his pleading expression, Natalie pulled a handful of herbs from her canvas bag. “I really did just come here for this medicine. I’m not living in the past. We should both move on.”
The sight of the herb in her hand pierced Darren’s eyes.

Time for Marie to get her end, this has gone on way too long, time to move on. It’s getting boring....
Payback time. Waiting for chapters 321 onwards!...
I love the sarcastic comebacks. Quite amusing!...
