The blood from her forehead dripped into her eye, mingling with her tears.
The child she had risked her life to bear had become the blade that stabbed her.
In that moment, Natalie finally saw things clearly.
She was done with her worthless husband, and she was done with the son who had betrayed her.
Just then, Darren knelt beside her, pressing a handkerchief to her forehead. He roared at the servants, "Lady Natalie is injured! Can't you see that? Get the first-aid kit, you useless fools!"
A servant scrambled to fetch the kit. Darren said anxiously, "Let me bandage this for you, and then I'll take you to the hospital."
Natalie pushed his hand away. "Don't bother. A little scratch like this won't kill me."
A flash of impatience crossed Darren's eyes. He said angrily, "Are you still going to cause trouble? The collaboration between the Cross Group and the Fairchild Conglomerate will make us one of the new elite families in Eldoria City. Are you sure you want to give up your status as Mrs. Cross, the wife of the CEO?"
Natalie stared at him, her voice ice-cold. "For people like you in the Cross family, is everything always about profit and loss?"
For a moment, Darren was at a loss for words.
Victoria said with disgust, "Darren, why are you trying to keep her? Once the Cross Group becomes a new elite family, she won't be worthy of even polishing our shoes, even if she begs to come back."
Hanley looked at the wound on Natalie's face, a flicker of emotion in his eyes.
"Mommy, don't divorce Daddy. When I grow up, I'll be the heir to the Cross Group. If you divorce him now, you won't be able to support yourself and you'll end up homeless, which would only embarrass me. You should just stay here and take care of me, Grandma, Daddy, and Auntie, just like you always have. Wouldn't that be better?"
Marie chimed in with a sneer, "Natalie, even a child like Hanley knows you can't survive without the Cross family. How could you possibly think he'd leave with you? If you have any pride, then just go. Don't pretend to want a divorce just for attention. No one's asking you to stay. It's pathetic!"
"That's enough," Darren said impatiently. "I'm sure she won't divorce me."
Marie's brow tightened, her face darkening ominously.
Natalie lowered her head. It was time everyone knew about their sordid affair.
She looked up at Darren, her anger completely concealed.
"Darren, you're all right. I can't divorce you. The Fairchild Conglomerate just announced their partnership with the Cross Group, and our stock has already surged by twenty percent. The company's future is unstoppable. I shouldn't be throwing a tantrum and holding you back."
