“Well, that’s better. I was worried you were here to ask for mercy for Marie. She harmed her own brother. If you, as her parents, came to plead for her, you’d be beyond saving.”
Two tears suddenly welled up in Elaine Ward’s eyes. She wiped them away and said, “You’re right, Mrs. Lockwood. My daughter harmed her own brother. It would be foolish of us to come here and plead for her.”
Seeing Elaine cry, Mrs. Lockwood felt a pang of sympathy.
“Try not to dwell on it. Some people are just bad seeds, born to cause trouble.”
Elaine Ward nodded, then looked at Natalie. “Ms. Verdan, we came to see you today for our son.”
For their son.
“My son has been in a vegetative state ever since a car accident over a year ago. We’ve consulted countless doctors, even internationally renowned brain specialists, but nothing has worked. We heard about your incredible medical skills. We know the chances are slim, but… would you be willing to try?”
So that’s why they were here—to ask her to treat their son.
Back when Mr. Ward Jr. first had his accident and fell into a coma, she hadn't yet known about the disgusting relationship between Marie and Darren Cross.
She had offered to try and treat her brother, but Marie had refused and humiliated her for it.
After that, she never brought it up again.
“Okay.”
Marie’s parents, along with everyone else in the room, were stunned. They couldn't believe Natalie had simply said a single word.
She had just agreed!
After all, the relationship between Natalie and Marie was far from good; they were practically mortal enemies. Yet now, when asked to save Marie’s brother, she agreed without a moment's hesitation.
“I’ll go to the hospital with you now.”
As Natalie prepared to leave with the Wards, Mrs. Lockwood grabbed her arm. “You have to get paid for a consultation! You can’t just leave the second someone asks. We’re people of status now; we can’t just run off whenever we’re called.”
Mrs. Lockwood was giving Natalie frantic signals, trying to hint that she should make some demands.
But Natalie just said, “What’s wrong with your eye? Did you get something in it?”
Mrs. Lockwood was speechless.
Natalie was a wonderful person, but far too naive.
Richard naturally understood Mrs. Lockwood’s intentions. He said, “Mrs. Lockwood, you’re right. A doctor must be compensated. Ms. Verdan, if you can cure my son, we will give you twenty percent of the Ward Group’s shares.”

Time for Marie to get her end, this has gone on way too long, time to move on. It’s getting boring....
Payback time. Waiting for chapters 321 onwards!...
I love the sarcastic comebacks. Quite amusing!...
