"We underestimated them."
At that moment, Terence and Natalie were in complete agreement. The flowers had to be the problem.
After all, they were the only thing that had been brought into the hospital room without being inspected.
"Let's go take a look."
Natalie and Terence went to the room, only to discover that the bouquet of flowers Hanley had sent was gone.
"The flowers? How could they be gone?"
Natalie frowned. Mrs. Lockwood had placed the bouquet on the small table next to the bed. How could it have vanished?
When Marcus went into sudden cardiac arrest, he was rushed to the emergency room.
Natalie and Terence had followed, but the security guards had remained stationed at the door.
Terence immediately called the guards into the room.
"The flowers that were here. Where did they go?"
The guards looked at each other in confusion. Their job had been to protect Marcus Ward and keep any unauthorized people away from him.
When Marcus was taken to the ER, they had remained at their post, but they had admittedly let their guard down.
None of them had paid any attention to a vase of flowers in the room.
"Flowers? We... we don't know."
Hearing their response, Terence said angrily, "You were standing right here, and you don't know who took the flowers? Did they grow legs and jump out the window?"
After being reprimanded, one of the guards finally remembered something.
"Mr. Lockwood, a little while after you left, a janitor came in to clean the room. She had a very large cleaning cart. She must have hidden the flowers in the cart and taken them away."
"Check the surveillance footage, find out which janitor took them, and get them back immediately."
"I'll find the person who took the flowers."
But the bouquet had probably been destroyed by now. The chances of recovering it were slim.
Natalie nodded slightly. If there was nothing wrong with the flowers, it was too much of a coincidence for the janitor to have taken them.
And her son, Hanley, was involved.
Suddenly, Natalie felt a tightness in her chest that made it hard to breathe. How could he go this far for Marie?
Terence saw that while Natalie's face was impassive, she was in agony on the inside, and it pained him to see her like this.
"I'm sure Hanley thought it was just a normal bouquet of flowers," he said gently. "He was just being used."
Being used? Natalie's brow tightened. Perhaps that was the best-case scenario.
What Natalie feared now was that Hanley knew what he was doing was wrong, but he did it anyway for Marie.

Time for Marie to get her end, this has gone on way too long, time to move on. It’s getting boring....
Payback time. Waiting for chapters 321 onwards!...
I love the sarcastic comebacks. Quite amusing!...
