The arrival of the police was a surprise to everyone, including Natalie.
Her expression was cool. She knew the person who had called them was Marie.
It seemed she was deciding to go on the offensive.
“Officer, I am not responsible for Marcus Ward’s death. There was something wrong with the bouquet of flowers brought into his room. Marie used the child to deliver it.”
“It’s not for you to say. Do you have any witnesses or evidence? If not, please come with us.”
The officer took out a pair of handcuffs and secured them on Natalie’s wrists.
Hanley’s face went pale as he saw Natalie being cuffed. He looked extremely nervous.
Natalie said, “Hanley, are you still not going to tell the truth? Are you just going to stand there and watch them take me away? Hurry up and tell the officers that Marie asked you to bring those flowers.”
Natalie stared intently at Hanley. He looked around nervously, swallowed hard, and said, “Mommy, I know I made you angry. I bought the flowers to apologize to you. It has nothing to do with Auntie! Mommy, you must be mistaken. How could a bouquet of flowers kill someone?”
Natalie couldn’t believe that even after seeing her in handcuffs, Hanley still chose to lie for Marie.
What was she even hoping for? Just like his father, when forced to choose between her and Marie, Hanley would always choose Marie.
“Please cooperate and come with us,” the officer said.
Natalie silently prepared to leave with the police when she heard Hanley call out to her.
“Mommy.”
Natalie turned back to look at him. Perhaps he wasn’t so cruel after all.
Perhaps he wouldn't stand by and watch the police take her away just to protect his aunt.
Victoria pulled Hanley back. He said, “Mommy, don’t worry. That Mr. Lockwood will definitely come to save you. But our family is bankrupt. There’s no one to save Auntie.”
So because she had someone to help her, she deserved this?
“Not your husband? But he seems really worried about you.”
“Not my husband.”
Suddenly, Natalie felt a jolt, as if an electric current had passed through her mind.
“Not my husband!”
Natalie repeated the words again. Nicholas Fairchild was instantly thrilled.
“Did you hear that, Terence? Natalie keeps denying it. She must really be afraid of people getting the wrong idea.”
Nicholas had also rushed to bail Natalie out upon hearing she’d been arrested. He had been annoyed that Terence beat him to it, but hearing Natalie say Terence wasn’t her husband filled him with glee, and he couldn’t resist taking a jab at his rival.
Terence’s expression darkened. He wasn’t her husband, but did she have to repeat it so many times, as if she was terrified of a misunderstanding?
Nicholas said smugly, “I should have been the one in front. Maybe Natalie wouldn’t be so resistant then. After all, I’m tall and handsome. I make a good impression!”

Time for Marie to get her end, this has gone on way too long, time to move on. It’s getting boring....
Payback time. Waiting for chapters 321 onwards!...
I love the sarcastic comebacks. Quite amusing!...
