This sudden turn of events was impossible for them to accept.
Elaine looked at Richard, her voice trembling. "Could what they said be true? Is Marie… really not our daughter?"
They had raised Marie for over twenty years and had never once suspected she wasn't their biological child.
"How could she have been switched at birth? How could something like this happen?"
"Don't panic. Let's find a chance to do a DNA test with Marie first. Maybe they're lying to us."
"Yes, yes. Let's wait until after we've done the DNA test."
As Richard and Elaine Ward anxiously discussed their plan, neither of them noticed a small figure standing just outside the living room. It was Hanley.
Because Hanley had insisted the flowers had nothing to do with Marie, Natalie had been locked up.
Victoria had used the opportunity to complain and make a scene, so Marie had brought them both to live at the Ward family home.
When Hanley saw Natalie arrive earlier, he had wanted to talk to his mom and followed her, only to overhear the shocking conversation.
His auntie was not his grandparents' biological daughter.
Though he was young, he understood what that meant. It meant his auntie wasn't Ms. Ward, and that the real Ms. Ward was someone else.
Everything his auntie had now would belong to someone else.

That evening, at the Ward residence.
"Hanley, you and your grandma are staying with us now. Are you getting used to it?" Marie asked, her tone dripping with concern, but inwardly she was cursing.
She didn't want Hanley and Victoria living in her house at all.
But Victoria had put on a show, insisting that hotels weren't safe, and Marie had let them stay to save face.
Victoria frowned. Why the long face now?
"You're usually such a sweet-talker," Victoria said angrily. "Why are you so quiet today, just moping around? What's on your mind?"
"Grandma, I… I…"
Hanley stammered, wanting to tell them what he'd heard but not knowing where to begin.
Victoria grew even more annoyed.
"What's gotten into you today? Why can't you even speak properly? Have you been in the same class as that Lockwood girl for so long that you've gone mute too? Can't you even thank your auntie?"
"It's alright," Marie interjected. "We're all family. No need for thanks."
Victoria pushed Hanley again. "Hurry up and thank your auntie. Without her, where would you be living in such a nice house?"
Under Victoria's pressure, Hanley finally looked at Marie and said, "Auntie. If you weren't your mom and dad's real child, would you be sad?"

Time for Marie to get her end, this has gone on way too long, time to move on. It’s getting boring....
Payback time. Waiting for chapters 321 onwards!...
I love the sarcastic comebacks. Quite amusing!...
