She was determined to put them in their place. She couldn't let them think that just because Marie had married into their family, they could throw their weight around in the Ward family or at the Ward Group.
They needed to learn who was boss.
Victoria's expression soured, but she didn't dare say another word. After all, the Cross Group was now defunct, and they had to rely on the Ward Group. So, no matter how upset she was, she couldn't say anything and could only force a smile.
Elaine Ward ignored Victoria and turned to Darren. "Darren, I'm not trying to nag you, but you know how you lost the Cross Group. While it's true that failure is the mother of success, you need to understand that without my daughter, you'd probably have a hard time even finding a job. Don't think you can just sponge off of us. If you do, you won't be enjoying the Ward family's hospitality for very long."
Natalie's comment about them being taken advantage of had clearly struck a nerve with Elaine Ward.
She had no intention of letting the Cross family, those vampires, bleed the Ward family dry.
"Mrs. Ward, don't listen to Natalie trying to stir up trouble. What's all this nonsense about being taken advantage of? The Cross family has never had such thoughts.
We should get Marie to sign the inheritance agreement. Everyone is waiting to congratulate Marie on becoming the president of the Ward Group. When Marie becomes one of the top three wealthiest women in the country, it'll be a victory for all of us women."
"Mom, my mother-in-law is right. Everyone is waiting to see me sign the inheritance agreement and congratulate me. We shouldn't let Natalie ruin the mood. I think Natalie is just jealous!"
Victoria quickly chimed in, "Yes, exactly! Natalie is just jealous, so she's deliberately spouting nonsense. We can't fall for her trap and let her drive a wedge between our two families."
Elaine Ward glanced at Victoria. For her daughter Marie's sake, she decided to let it go.
"Fine, I'll listen to my daughter. Let's proceed with the signing of the inheritance agreement."
She twirled the pen in her hand, her eyes glinting with triumph as she looked at Natalie. She would spend the rest of her life trampling Natalie under her heel.
Natalie, oh Natalie, so what if she was the real heiress of the Ward Group? For the rest of her life, Natalie would never get back her rightful place, her rightful fortune.
All she could do was watch as Marie took possession of all the Ward Group's assets.
Just as Marie was about to sign with a smug look, she heard a chilling voice.
"Wait."

Marie needs to be gone, she has caused enough trouble for Natalie. This is getting boring!...
This fiasco needs to end. Natalie and Terrance need to be together and in my mind somehow those twins are Natalie’s....
