Chosen Just To Be Rejected by Jennifer Francis novel Chapter 109

Bella

Whit looked relieved to see her awake and Milly cried a lot as she stood on the chair next to her bed, where Parker had placed her and stayed her, to keep her from climbing up on the bed, explained to her that she shouldn’t, stated the words “Mummy’s not so well, how about you hold her hand instead.”

Which Milly had looked up at him and then nodded tearfully, but done as she was asked, and he’d stood there and patted Milly’s back. Annette had come in and seen the children were up and awake and told her she’d wait on the explanation until later.

She understood that, as she didn’t want to upset the children, who already looked upset, she didn’t want Whit or Milly to hear the details, and she knew they weren’t going to be. Not considering she had an incision down the middle of her chest and a clear dressing over the top of it. She had internal sutures

from what she could tell.

It wasn’t often you’d find a wolf male or female with a scar like what she was going to have. It wasn’t all that often one of their Kind needed to have surgery like she’d had either. She didn’t even know what had happened and could only guess at it until the children were gone from the room.

That didn’t happen until it was breakfast time and Parker insisted on them going to the packhouse with him for that, to let her be checked on by the doctor and give her some more rest. She’d smiled at him and thanked him. He’d nodded, knew she couldn’t mind–link to Annette or himself to get answers and was likely protecting both Whit and Milly from hearing something they didn’t need to at their age.

It was nice to see him just pick Milly up and her little girl sit comfortably on his hip like she belonged there. He’d managed to distract her from being worried about leaving the room by asking her about what kind of pancakes she wanted for breakfast.

Whit had chimed in and talked happily about Milly being able to have her favourite blueberry pancakes, told her that they couldn’t get them here in the hospital, only in the packhouse, teasingly stated. “Not even dad can make them.”

Milly had looked at Parker curiously, and he’d shaken his head. “I can’t.” and they’d headed off to get

breakfast.

He’d looked at her before leaving the room, and she’d nodded “I’ll be fine.” And he’d told her he’d be back after breakfast as Annette had come into the room and closed the door behind her.

“How bad was it?” she asked right away, touching her chest.

“Bad, you came in with a broken sternum and a collapsed lung, four broken ribs. One of the sharp ends of your second rib made a 0.5cm tear in your left ventricle, which our surgeon had to repair. There was a lot of bleeding and you had to have blood transfusions.” She sighed and looked at Bella. “Your heart stopped beating at one point, and we had to perform CPR.”

She was staring at Annette now, more than a little horrified. “How much do the children know?” she asked.

“Milly, nothing. Parker opted not to tell her, something about she has trauma herself and is too small to understand as well. She, believe, was told you were sick and sedated for a day because you needed

sleep.”

“What? Wait, an entire day?” she frowned now.

“Mm, I kept you sedated for 24 hours post–surgery. It’s quite common to do so, it helps with the healing

process.”

“The surgery itself?” she asked.

“Just over six hours. It’s Monday, Bella.” Annette stated.

“Not that long, about two minutes give or take a few seconds, it will be recorded accurately in the surgical notes… Though I’m betting it felt a lot longer to Parker, he was out in the hall the whole time, could see through the window in the door.” Annette sighed “He donated his own blood to saving you. We only had two pints of blood in stock that matched you. The she–wolf in question moved away just after her last donation, it was nearly out of date to be used as well.

“He gave too much in other words, could have harmed himself in doing so,” Bella murmured.
