Half. No one else knew that we only had half of Elianna’s true self tonight. The other half was in panic, silently enduring her fears. People knew her for her sass. She delivered each word with perfect nonchalance that those around her, including her uncles, thought she was doing okay. It was the result of years of forced training with her former husband.

Elianna was still unconsciously playing a role today not because of the reputation she had to protect. She did not care about that. I doubt if it even crossed her mind. She was doing this for the newlyweds and in a way, for me too.

Her exhaustion and fear were pulsing through our bond although she was trying hard to conceal them from everyone, including her hunters, who were apparently here tonight. I hated that Elianna had learned to conceal things from me, things that I would not have known if not for the bond. Fortunately, the bond became stronger the second I was able to retrieve my memories of her. At least, that was the case on my part.

Elianna’s face was vulnerable and completely open after meeting her friends. She may appear confident, but a part of her needed assurance. And I would be more than happy to provide it for her. However, the assurance that certain people could bring to her was out of my capacity anymore. That’s why I was glad that her friends were able to give it to her.

“Tired?” I asked softly.

Elianna bit her lower lip before slowly nodding her head. “Yes.”

“Stay still.”

I bent down and lifted her like a groom would have done for his bride. Hopefully, the next wedding we would attend would be ours. She yawned and buried her face between my neck and shoulder. Carrying an alpha’s son was never an easy thing even for those who could shift. How much more for a woman this tiny? That was the reason why she was the bravest in my

eyes.

Elianna was brave then with how she handled me and the rest of us werewolves in a world she was not used to. Even with shaky hands and unsteady voice, she made sure to always get her point across. Pregnancy made her braver.

“Let’s say goodbye to the newlyweds and then we’ll come home. I whispered as I strode towards my sister and Dale’s direction.

I thought she had fallen asleep. But then she snuggled closer to me and said the words that knocked me off my feet.

“Already home.”

There were very few things in the world that could take my breath away. And those things only became possible the night I met Elianna, each time she would smile, she would laugh or would say these things… which meant that every moment of her life, she took my breath away.

Just like today.

I froze, my heart racing, as I stared at her.

Her sleepy eyes met mine. I had not heard her say the words yet And there was no need to. Those two words were enough. Because it meant that in her most vulnerable state, even when she could not remember who I was, even when she could not recognize the bond, she felt the most comfortable with me. To ll me home only meant she felt the safest with me.

“Creed?”

“Yes, love?”

The smile that followed the second those words automatically came out of my mouth, could dazzle any man. I was glad no one else was around to see it. I would always be a selfish bastardhen it came to her smiles.

Chapter 102

“What was I like when we first met?”

“You lived boldly,” I responded, shaking my head while remembering how she dived into the Romualdez River, how she negotiated with gold, and how she talked to Terrence and Arames when she was still living as a human. “And unapologetically. Just like now. You say whatever pops in your head. You don’t let people in easily but once you do? You love them with all of you.”

When she was shopping back then, I saw the gifts she got not only for her mother, but also for her friends. Even Lizbeth and Bridget had gifts as well which she all sent anonymously. Each time she would go to the dessert shops and eat good food, she would have them delivered to her friends’ addresses. I remembered Lizbeth giving me endless phone calls back then, crying, as she begged me to see her, after receiving the food and the sparkly bags she chose for Bridget, instantly knowing they were from her.

Elianna did not meet any of her friends, but she did not forget them. Even now. There may still be a thin wall between them, but in her own way, she was giving them a chance to break the wall.

“And you? What were you like?”

“I don’t know. Only you can answer that, Elianna. All I knew was what I looked like without you.”

“And what was that?”

“Destroyed.”

Her smile faltered and so was mine. I could still describe that loss very well. It was existing with a massive hole in your body. It was relentlessly missing and searching for something you did not know. It was being in pain several times a day. The only time the pain was bearable was when I slept. Even then, even in my dreams, I still saw myself searching desperately and waking up in even more agony for being unable to find it.

It was a huge crack in the soul, a torture for the mind, a constant pierce in the heart.

It was a complete darkness without any light creeping in.

It was living with questions and never getting any answers.

The devastation in her eyes mirrored mine as she confessed, “Me too.” She cupped my cheeks. “I only remembered to live when I met you, Creed. I only remembered to be brave when you wrapped your arms around me.” She smiled as her eyes watered. “I don’t know the ‘me’ you fell in love with. I wish I could remember her though. I really wish I could remember more. But if there’s one thing I know now, it’s the fact that if I could live as boldly and as unapologetically as you said, it was probably because during those times, you were with me.”
