My beta deserved better than this. Dale just got married and was supposed to be enjoying the honeymoon he carefully planned for with the excitement of a little boy. Yet, he was on the brink of death right fucking now all because he dug something that was supposed to stay buried for eternity. Elianna held my hand the entire journey back to the island while I was boiling with rage.
‘I-I found a note inside his mouth, Creed,’ I recalled Lizbeth sobbing. ‘I-it said that Dale is next. And then I heard about Landon dying. Does this mean that whoever this creep is, he is targeting my husband too? But why? What did he do? Why is this happening to us? I don’t know what to do. I need you here, Creed’
‘I can’t. You know I’m on duty. I will send more warriors there, Liz.”
‘I don’t need your warriors! What I need is my brother!’
Lizbeth ended the call afterwards.
“It’s alright. You can visit your sister, Creed. She needs you right now. I’ll be fine. You can go,” Elianna said in a low voice as we reached the island through the portal.
The Rosewood brothers worked on it for nights as a gift for Elianna and Eloise so that both women could travel anywhere and go back easily especially now that Elianna could not use her full powers with the pregnancy wearing her out these days. On a normal day, tamers could teleport although Elianna still had to relearn it. Elbise could no longer do it, saying she was past her prime.
I shook my head. Leaving was not an option.
“I can’t.”

She looked like she was about to give birth any day now. Dale was a distraction. I felt sorry for him, and I would compensate him for this. I loved Dale like a brother. I would fight for my beta any day in any battle but not right now when I knew that my mate was the real target and they were aiming for this, to make me leave her side so they would have no trouble getting to her.
“If you’re worried about me, then I’ll glue myself to the Dragon King’s side while you’re away,” Elianna pressed on.
“Still no,” I responded with finality in my voice as I called the pack warriors and summoned them to Lizbeth’s manor.
I had been telling them that their place had already been infested by the hunters. I offered them to choose from one of my properties although they refused to leave their dream house and only asked the mages to clear the dark energy around it.
Lizbeth was going to hate me for this today, but tomorrow, when she could think clearly, she would understand. I bet no one could take her off her husband’s side right now, especially when he was still in danger. That was the same for me and my mate. Leaving her and our baby vulnerable was out of the question, especially when I could not trust even the dragons
around her.
When I glanced back at Elianna, she had already fallen asleep. She was frowning as if even in her dreams, she was troubled. I took her belongings and carried her back to her quarters. I laid her on the bed, removed her shoes, and raised the blanket over her shoulders before sitting by her side.
My gaze landed onto the sketchpad. Before I took Lizbeth’s call, I noticed her hands shake upon flipping one of the pages. What the hell did Landon sketch this time?
I browsed the pages, each one revealing his fantasy about her, about ‘their’ little family. I tossed the damn thing. They were all compilations of his dreams that I was not interested in. The book hit the carpet, and as if by chance, it landed onto the last page.

My beast was on edge as I raised the book which gave me the same feeling about the jacket. I brought the jacket and placed it together with the book on the divan before grabbing a dagger. I slit my hand and dropped my blood on them as I crafted a spell, hoping the result would be different this time with a tamer’s blood in my body since Elianna had been letting me feed on her after I go down on her every night while I fed her mine, creating a different kind of bond between us.
A blood bond.
She needed my strength for the baby while I needed her blood to be able to detect threats and protect her better.
