‘Zane Black, that’s going to be your name, sweetie. Zane means God is gracious. And despite all the troubles your daddy and I are going through right now, when I think about you, whenever I feel your kick, I feel blessed. Your existence is the proof that we are loved; that the Gods and Goddesses are gracious because they gave you to us. You are a blessing, sweetie.’

Elianna’s voice echoed throughout the room. Baby Zane hadn’t stopped crying according to the doctor. His chubby cheeks were red, and his voice was hoarse from crying too much until we played the recorder. Like magic, the little prince calmed at once. He was now sniffling in Eloise’s arms as the latter held the milk bottle for him.

“Mom?” Bridget pulled the edge of my blouse. “When are they going to wake up? What’s taking them so long?”

I tried. I tried really hard to fight back the tears. I didn’t want my daughter to keep seeing me in a mess. But there were times like today when I was not sure what to do or say.

“Are they okay?” Bridget asked innocently as we stared at the image in front of us.

Eli laid between Creed and his wolf. Doctor Ramirez said that after the war, after they were found by the Dragon King, the wolf collapsed. That very day, Eli’s heart stopped beating. My brother followed half an hour later with her in his arms.

The healers arrived and tried reviving them. Even if their hearts were now beating faintly, the three of them remained unconscious. No one could tell us when they would wake up. Today was the seventh day. During the first day, after the treatment, we had lost all hopes.

Their bodies had turned cold, but when the Alpha King came to visit and transferred Creed and his wolf beside Eli, a miracle happened. I put my brother’s hand over Eli’s and placed her hand over the wolf’s fur. It was like they were sharing body heat. Their breaths and heart beats were in sync as if the three of them were sharing one heart and one breath which amazed even the oldest healers.

“Your uncle Creed and aunt Eli gave a good fight, Bridget. And in that fight, they suffered the most injuries. That’s why they are tired. What do we do when we are tired?”

“We rest,” my daughter answered.

“That’s right. That’s what your uncle Creed and aunt Eli are doing. They are taking a long, long break,” Terrence explained patiently as he handed a chocolate bar to my daughter. “They are probably dreaming together right now, enjoying the much-needed vacation they never got to have together in real life.”

“You brought my favorite. Thank you, Uncle Rence!” Bridget took the chocolate and smiled sweetly. “Do you think they are together in their dream?”

“Well, they must have reunited there. Your uncle is so in love with your aunt Eli that he made sure to follow her so that even in her dream, she wouldn’t be alone.” Terrence took a deep breath. “Your aunt Eli, for all her quirks and naughtiness, gets scared and lonely easily. Your uncle is probably making sure he could hold her there and keep her warm.”

Upon hearing that, Eloise broke down. Uncle Aramides quickly put his arms over her shoulders.

“Just like Uncle Dale?” Bridget asked again, making me freeze.

“That asshole is different-“Aramides stopped, realizing he was talking to a kid. “I mean he is dead and he is probably inside a nightmare right now.”

Bridget frowned. “Why is that?”

Aramides cleared his throat. “He does not deserve to be dreaming right now. Dreams are for good people. However, when someone like Dale enter that dream, it becomes a nightmare. When people do bad things, they don’t end up in a peaceful place, Bridget.” When he caught my gaze, he shrugged. “Come on. We should all stop defending his ass in front of kids.

They should be taught as early as possible about nightmares and monsters so they will be more careful in the future, And Dale is exactly that. A nightmare and a monster. You should be thankful I am only calling him those things, Lizbeth. There are far worse descriptions I could say but I’m choosing not to. For your sake.”

Silver called Bridget and brought her with the other kids to play mouthing me that she got this, that she would be the one to explain the rest to my daughter since my brain and heart were filing me at the moment. I didn’t know the proper words to

say.

When I lost Dale, I lost my husband, my mate, and my friend. And now, I was on the verge of losing Creed and Eli too. I was spiraling.

“It’s my-”

“Don’t say it.” Terrence put his forefinger over my lips and shook his head. “If Eli is awake and she hears you say ‘fault’, you are going to make her mad. And trust me, you don’t want to see that tiny heiress mad.” He smiled in amusement. “Even with a size like that, Eli could inflict real damage. Physically and emo onally. We both saw how the mighty Rosewood siblings. faltered upon hearing her call them prehistoric.”

I laughed… and cried at the same time. “But if it weren’t for me, I hadn’t lost it that day, Eli wouldn’t have been bitten by me. I hurt her again. She wouldn’t have to exhaust her mana and strength to keep me together. She just gave birth, for heaven’s sake. She’d been through a lot of traumas that day. She was on that bed because of me. This happened to her because I was weak and stupid.”

“You were not weak. You were vulnerable and in love, Lizbeth.”

“You say that as if that could excuse my actions.”

“On the contrary, I was sure Eli and Creed were proud of you. In the end, you did the right thing.”

I’d like to think that too.

I only processed Dale’s burial within a day as the last act of love that I bestowed upon him. I didn’t want to hide and mourn him for a long time, not after what he’d done to me, to my brother, and to Eli. Bridget and I had somewhere more important to go to and that was Eli and Creed’s place.

They were transferred back to the beach house. We wanted to bring Zane to the place where his parents fell in love. Our memories returned with the hunters’ death. Silver, Carmie, and Shanty stood by my side and had been staying here with me and Eloise. They didn’t leave and like me, they were waiting for my brother, especially for our friend, no, for our sister’s

return.

Terrence wiped my tears away and I realized he had been doing his for a very long time now. When Bridget’s father left me, he was there. When Dale couldn’t help me with the wedding preparations, Terrence attended on his behalf. With just one call, he would show

Even if he was the busiest man in the realm.

And that made me so guilty because when I thought he was being mean to Dale, I pushed him away. And I did it again when I thought he was Eli’s stalker.

“Why are you here? You’re not supposed to be doing this,” I sobbed,

“And what am I supposed to do?”

“You’re supposed to hate me.”

Terrence nodded. “Right. If only I could.”

He didn’t say more and I was still too hurt to ask why. I stared at Eli and my brother. “Do you think they’ll wake up and

come back to us?”
