“No.” I answered, despite the blood trickling down my nose, my skull felt like it was being crushed. His smile was punch- worthy as he saw how much his alpha dominance was affecting me. I held Dani’s hand tighter. For a brief moment, I felt proud. My eleven-year-old sister would have cried in panic by now after all that running that we did but she was bravely holding it in although when she looked up and saw me bleeding, her eyes started to water as she bit her quivering lip to stop herself from crying.
Sweat drenched my skin as six more men stalked out of the shadows.
“Pet.” Simon, Grigor’s enforcer, called out, smirking.
Fury burned hot in my chest. Pet. That was how they called me in the pack because that was how they treated omegas. I had another name. Thirteen. Because I was the thirteenth omega they brought into the pack.
While most girls my age had met their crushes and mates in their teens, I met these monsters when I was sixteen. They were the people who came to the orphanage. Grigor took several orphans with him, promising us all the things we craved: protection, a family, a bright future, and a pack. And we fell for We realized way too late that no alphas could be trusted.
The Omega Protection Law which the Dragon Queen had made decades ago was only for the wealthy omegas. If an omega had high-ranking parents, she was protected. Treasured. If not, she was abused. Orphans like me had very limited options.
For the thousandth time, I loathed the Moon Goddess for taking my dad away from me too soon.
“Did you really think you could escape us? Among the omegas, you have always been quite the rebel, Thirteen. We knew you would attempt to escape. The last two hours must have been pure bliss for you when you thought you almost tricked us.” He licked his upper lip. “Thanks to that, we enjoyed the hunt.”
I swallowed hard. I almost forgot. Pain and fear. These bunch of sadistic assholes got off with those two. Nothing could turn them on more than the thought of us filled with dread and anxiety.
“Game is over, pet. You do know what is waiting for you back at the house, do you?”
Hell had a name. And it was House Lemadon, their pack house. hell had an exact address, it would be that very place.
And once they brought me back, they would drag me down in the basement for days and lock me inside. No food. No mattress. Just a bottle of water and pure darkness. I knew because they sent me down there many times in a year as a punishment for every ‘no’ they heard from me, for every time I dared to talk back, for every time I looked up and met their eyes.
Together, the men stalked closer. Some of them whistled, clearly having the best time of their damn lives, especially when my sister could no longer help herself and started wailing.
I gritted my teeth. In another time, I would have shifted in my wolf form, but these rotten people forced us to drink the liquid that made us unable to shift for the next few days in preparation for the auction. That damn thing was also affecting
my mana.
Just as helplessness started to creep over my system, I saw someone behind a tree, staring at me, his finger on his mouth, as if telling me not to make a sound.
August. My father’s mage best friend, the one who taught me nina tricks. Or was he still his friend? He didn’t even attend 1/4

the funeral. I hadn’t seen him in a long time. I thought he was dead as well. But the fury in his eyes intended for the men around me was unmistakable which could be a proof that the old man still cared although he would never admit it.
Hope bloomed in my chest.
“Do you want to be punished along with your sister?” Grigor asked Dani. “Do you really want to make your alpha mad?” Dani shook her head. “Good because I would hate to whip that beautiful, flawless skin of yours, little omega.” My sister looked up to me, trembling, as the laughter boomed around us. She had peed on her pants from fear. “Come here and save yourself from the punishment, nineteen.”
I looked down. “Dani, listen to me-“
But before I could finish my sentence, my sister bit my hand, forcing me to release her. And then she ran to them.
“Dani, no!”
I didn’t have the extra strength to pull her back to me, especially when August shook his head.
Simon gripped her hand, making her wince.
“I’m sorry,” she sobbed. “I’m scared.”
Of course she was. She was familiar with the marks on my hands and back. She was the one who patiently put a cream onto
each mark while crying silently
As soon as they got her, Grigor made his move and shifted into his wolf form. He leapt, ready to pounce on me, when the violent wind suddenly blew, distracting the wolves. There was an explosion which made some of them scream painfully. Before I knew it, somebody grabbed my hand.
When I opened my eyes again, I was out of the woods. August pushed me inside an old car. “Get in, Alexandra. Hurry!”
“But my sister-”
“We will get her another time! Now do as I said if you still want to live! Get the fuck in, Alexandra!”
He was dad’s best friend, alright. If I had uncertainties a while ago, that was all gone now. The old man hadn’t changed. His mouth was still as filthy as I remembered, unlike my soft-spoken dad who had never cussed in his life.
The roars echoing in the forest finally made me open the door and sat beside him on the passenger seat. He drove as fast as he could after throwing what looked like a potion. He tossed it on the road when Simon’s wolf was about to catch us.
There was another explosion before we finally got away.
“I’m sorry, Dani. I promise I’ll come get you one day,” I promised as I wiped the tears off my face while staring at the window.
Dani was there, standing beside Grigor, screaming for help.
I looked away. My only consolation for now was that she was still too young to be auctioned. I still have time although I knew those motherfuckers would use her to get me back. If there was one thing House Lemadon hated the most, it was losing their pets.
August reached out and covered my eyes with his hand. “Get some rest.”
Before I could argue, I’d already fallen asleep. When I opened my eyes again, the sun was up.
“I’m sorry,” August sighed after noticing I was awake. “I only learned about Fabio’s death two months ago after coming home from a mission. When I found out that you were sent to the orphanage, I looked for you. They told me you were adopted by a pack. I thought you found a loving pack. That was what they sad.” His jaw tightened. “If I hadn’t come to check, I wouldn’t

have known you were suffering in the hands of those motherfuckers.”
I sniffled. He came to check on me. And he saved me. “Fine. I forgive you-“

“Then you will have to forgive me again. Because I cannot keep you with me right now, Alexandra. I researched about the pack who took you. Knowing them, I’m sure they will do anything to get you back. I’ll have to return to my realm, and I can’t take you with me. The lord assigned yet another dangerous mission to me and I didn’t save you back there only to risk your life again.”
“Then where-”
My words died down when I saw where he parked. It was in front of BMB Academy, short for Black, McAllister, and Beckett, the three alphas who founded the Academy which was also known as the Alpha Territory where only the alphas were allowed. I heard the monsters in the pack talk about it many times, about wanting to get in, but failing the Academy’s incredibly high standards.
My blood pounded in my ears.
“I can’t think of a better hiding place,” August resumed. “I really am sorry, Alexandra. I know you have always wanted to study in a prestigious academy and there is no place more prestigious than this.”
“But only alphas are allowed to get in,” I reminded him. Or did he forget?
Those who would graduate from BMB would serve lords and royalties. If they got lucky, they might even be sent as representatives to the dragon realm, the most sought-after realm in the world, with the hopes of meeting the famous dragon queen Elianna Black and her husband lord, Creed Black. The power couple had starred in every conversation since I was a little girl while the world regarded them as superheroes.
How silly.
“Do you still remember the glamour I taught you before?” August asked.
My eyes widened. “Are you saying you want me to pretend to be an alpha?”
“It’s for your survival, Alexandra.”
“What if they catch me?”
“I believe you are smart enough not to let yourself be caught. Fabio and I taught you better than that. Now do the spell.” He glanced at his wristwatch. “We are running out of time. Once the guards close the gates, you can’t get in again. And today is the last day, the last hour, for the aspiring alphas.”
My jaw dropped. Glamour was a spell to hide my true form. If I was strong enough, through glamour, I could hide even my scent and gender. And I wasn’t in my best form right now. As if reading my mind, August handed me an elixir.
“I put more of those elixirs in your bag. We don’t have much time, Ari,” he said softly.
Once again, choices were being stripped off of me. I wanted to hate the old man, but I could still see the concern in his eyes which forced me to drink the elixir. In a matter of minutes, I felt my strength coming back. When I performed the spell he taught me, in a blink of an eye, my long silver hair had turned short.
My eyes were still purple, and I couldn’t do anything about that But my body was bigger, my soft curves disappeared, my scent changed, and even my wolf had changed its appearance as well. I glanced at myself in the rearview mirror. If I had a male twin, he would look exactly like this. With the oversized hoodie and baggy jeans that I was wearing. I looked like the masculine version of myself.
Luckily, no one from House Lemadon knew I had mana. Otherwise, they would have experimented on me a long time ago.
