(Ari)
Like sharks smelling blood in the water, most of the alpha students immediately turned around and gave me their unwanted attention. I struggled to keep my feet steady even if my instincts were yelling at me to run.
A few hours ago, I thought my godfather, August Gray, was an ally. In another time, I might even consider him as an angel who saved me. But now I wanted to curse the hell out of him and consider him a demon for throwing me into the wolves without leaving me any survival tips as the only omega in this alpha infested place.
I met the alphas’ eyes which I considered a small win. In another version of hell I came from, it was a sin to do it without their permission. Now I could look at them however I wanted, and nobody would kick my knees, make me drop onto the ground, and bow down to them. The more I stared, the more their curiosity seemed to be piqued as their eyes landed onto my shirt. Some frowned, some judged, while some eyed me warly.
I looked down at my own baggy shirt and realized it had drops of blood: mine when my nose bled after I fought against Grigor’s alpha dominance while some was because of the guy whose throat I pierced with a kitchen knife when I attempted to escape with Dani last night. I laced the dagger with mana a few nights ago that’s why the guy fell asleep in pain although I doubted if he could ever use his darn mouth to o curse and humiliate any omega after that surprise attack.
People like that should never be allowed to talk. Ever.
Now I got where the attention was coming from. Apart from being the only ‘guy’ in these cheap clothes, I apparently had blood on me on my first day in the Academy because my evil godfather didn’t even think of lending me a new shirt before leaving me here. Thanks to him, I was making quite an impression.
Damn that old man.

Most of the students were in their semi-formal clothes, they were in their clean and obviously very expensive long sleeves, dark pants, and leather shoes as they chatted with one another like they already knew each other.
“Ari Gray?”
A soft, feminine voice called out. A beta. The times had changed according to my dad. Betas were now referred to people without superior genetics. And superior genetics meant alpha and omega blood. They were like a stronger version of humans but with wolves.
Right. Of course, they wouldn’t allow omegas in here which might cause the alphas to rut. I just had to wish my old man enough vials to last me for three years because it would be hard to fight all these pheromones around without that liquid courage.
The beta had this lovely straight and long hair that reached her waist, a heart-shaped face and a golden tan. She also seemed young, maybe around my age. For a second, I forgot who I was supposed to be. I beamed at her which seemed to surprise her. Blushing, she extended her hand.
“Hello, I’m Sophie Ramirez, an admin assistant. It’s nice to meet you.”
“Same here. My name is Ari,” I said as I held her hand, somehow relieved that even if I didn’t like this place, at least here, I got to be treated like a person and be called by my nickname rather than a number.
I missed my name.
To my surprise, her blush seemed to deepen. I knew that my voice had changed. It was hoarse when I was still in House Lemadon from the screaming after all that goddamn whipping but as a ‘guy, my voice sounded masculine and naturally raspy.
“I’ve been waiting for you. Professor Chad is a friend of Mr. Gray I was told he owed your father his life.”

“The Prof told me to assist you when it comes to the ins and outs of the Academy since it’s your first time in the werewolf realm.”
She paused, as if looking for confirmation.
I shrugged because what else could I do or say? It was my first time hearing that bullshit. I was born and raised here. My mom was a mage who died after giving birth to me. That’s why I was a mixed breed which wasn’t new anymore since everyone was free to love anybody even if he or she was from another race. They said it became possible thanks to the Dragon Queen.
“Most of the students here already had a tour of the Academy since they came here a few days earlier than you. You are the last alpha student who was accepted. Shall we go? Let me tour you around. I will also tell you where your dormitory is.”
“Lead the way,” I told her, smiling warmly.
What could I do? I had soft spots for girls.
It had been a while since I got to talk to a girl other than Dani. We were not allowed to speak to each other, that’s why they put mouth covers on us. I took a deep breath to calm myself. For the past years, if there was one thing I learned apart from alphas being monsters, it was the fact that some women, some omegas, were more honorable than men, than alphas.
“Are you okay?” Sophie asked after seeing my expression change
I simply nodded.
She motioned the blood on my shirt. “The orientation will start in two hours. You might want to change your shirt before going into the auditorium. His Highness Prince Aidan will be the speaker for today. All the professors will also be there. It’s not too late to make a nice impression.”
“I understand.”
The last thing I wanted to impress were the alphas. All of them were thorns in my throat. If only dad’s alpha didn’t kick us from the pack, I wouldn’t have to be sent to the orphanage. But because alphas were stupid creatures who had nothing to bring onto the table aside from their physical strength, they made us leave upon seeing me, claiming I was a daughter of a witch because of my eyes. And for them, witches were a bad omen.
Because of that stupid belief, dad became a lone wolf.
I had a mana purer than most mages, damn it, but they didn’t care. Because like I said, alphas were stupid. No other packs took us in. As if dad and I needed them. Packs just consisted of overgrown toddlers. Although the toddlers from House Lemadon were deranged. My purple eyes fascinated them.
“One of the things that the alphas looked forward to is the chance to meet and work with the royalties, including the dragons themselves although of course, it will only happen if they graduate on top of their class,” Sophie informed. “How about you, Ari? What do you look forward to now that you’re here?”
Freedom. Food. Clean water. Bed. A room with windows where I would be able to tell if it was nighttime already because I didn’t have all that from where I came from. It was endless darkness. I’d only known that the sun had set when the men would deliver food if you could call a tiny bowl of tasteless soup and a piece of bland bread food.
How
many times did we sleep at night with the sound of our stomachs grumbling? That same sound was also our alarm clock. We would wake up hungry and then they would drive us out of that dark room, dress us like dolls, and then they would teach us how to perform for alphas.
“Ari?”
“I’d also want that chance to talk to Her Excellency herself”

“Do you also admire Her Excellency? I can’t blame you.” Sophie giggled. “She’s almost every alpha’s dream woman.”
Well, I didn’t know about that. Before an accident took dad’s life, he said the Dragon Queen was wise and fair who had a soft spot for omegas hence, the Omega Protection Law which she established. Given a chance, I would inform her about the House of Lemadon and the growing number of alphas who were planning a revolt against the current Alpha King and Luna Queen Leo and Silver McAllister. Maybe then Elianna Black would understand why I had to disguise as an alpha to protect myself although if she decided to punish me in the end, it would be worth it as long as it meant the annihilation of the House of Lemadon.
But three years was too damn long. Who knew what would happen to Dani during those years? I had to find a way to be able to talk to the Dragon Queen. She was the only one I wanted to trust about this matter. I didn’t think I could trust any alphas after what I had gone through in their hands even if said alphas were her allies.
Sophie showed me the library, the intimidating training room, and the very spacious auditorium. There was no place in this academy which wasn’t beautiful with the high ceilings, intricate woodworks, stunning statues, and the golden fountains. There were also many trees and flowers around.
We stayed and chatted in the massive cafeteria for a while. I ignored the looks I received as we lined up for food. Apparently, all my meals were paid, and I could get as many as I wanted since my ‘mage dad’ made sure I’d have unlimited access to drinks and food. I took my time getting every type of bread I’d seen, some candies, and a few bottles of water. I put them all in my bag while I started munching a bagel as Sophie resumed the tour and eyed me with amusement after I groaned at the first bite.
“This is good,” I said between eating and looking around.
After four years, I finally got to put some real food in my stomach.
Sophie smiled proudly. “BMB has the best chefs.”
After the tour, Sophie led me to the dormitory and then she handed me a booklet about the academy and a key.
“Your room is on the third floor. You will be sharing it with Sebastian Harley, the alpha of the Storm Gale Pack.”
Storm Gale. If I remembered it right, that was one of the leading packs in the city. I’d heard Grigor talked shit about them many times as they blasted another one of his warehouses where they hid illegal weapons.
So now, not only would I be spending the next three years of my life with the beings that I hated the most, I would also be sharing a room with one of them. Great. Just great. For the second time this morning, I cursed August and wished he could hear every nasty word I uttered in my head about him.
