Chapter 15
Chapter 15
(Eli)
“What?! The Alpha King’s soldiers nearly attacked my brother? What in the world are you talking about, Dale? How could that happen?”
I quickly rescued my plate after Lizbeth suddenly slammed our table while she was talking to Dale on the phone. The wooden table looked unsafe, like one more smash of her hand and it would falter. I went back to eating my favorite cake and fought back the urge to moan. Did the shifters put something in here? This was the best tiramisu I’d ever had.
I’d never gotten the chance to eat it after getting married. There were several dos and don’ts in my prison. One of the don’ts was eating sweets. And I loved sweets. Landon didn’t want me to ruin my figure by eating what he considered was a total garbage. Damn him and his beliefs.
“You mean Creed started it first? He nearly shifted in front of the King? Are you sure? But that’s impossible!”
Another smash and the table crumbled although none of the diners seemed to pay attention. The waiters just approached us and replaced the table like it was a normal occurrence. Good thing I was finished with my food, and I got to grab my glass before it fell on the tiled floor.
“They’re used to it,” Silver, who was sitting next to me, explained, as if she’d read my mind. “The Blacks own this and almost all the establishments you saw on our way here.” When my eyes widened, she grinned. “Our pack alpha has properties in all the realms all over the world.”
“You mean there are other realms?”
“His Majesty is his godfather,” Lizbeth gritted her teeth, stealing back our attention, before Silver could answer. Her chest heaved. She looked ready to go to war. “My brother gets a bit unhinged at times, but he wouldn’t do that with the King present. What did the King do? Creed wouldn’t snap unless triggered.”
Wow. Their brother and sister bond clearly ran deep. Lizbeth was fuming and obviously, it was because of her instant rage towards their king. In her mind, their king was automatically the villain. The respect in her eyes for Creed was palpable like he was her hero or something.
“What do you mean it’s because of-“Lizbeth paused and shot me a look I couldn’t decipher. And then her brows furrowed.
I shrugged and quietly accepted the plate Shanty moved beside mine. It was another slice of cake. A red velvet and just as delicious. Beaming, I mouthed my thank you and proceeded to eat with gusto while Lizbeth listened on the other line without taking her eyes off me.
When I looked up, I saw how she shook her head upon watching me. I frowned. What was I supposed to do? Be as furious as her? It wasn’t like I even understood the ways of their world. Besides, even if what her brother did was unexpected even for me, he was old enough. If he wanted to wage war with their king, so be it.
But he ought to let me escape before that.
Lizbeth was still arguing with Dale while glaring at me when I glanced at Shanty. “Do you mind if I take a walk outside? I’ll be back in twenty minutes.”
The area seemed peaceful with less cars, more trees, and fresher air. It felt so close to nature. I could even see the mountains from here. During the drive, I saw a variety of flowers that I’d never seen before.
After seeing me awake, the girls surprised me by inviting me out. Carmie drove here. I didn’t even think I would be allowed to step out of Creed’s house. For years, I only got to go out each time there was a party Landon had to attend with me. We would have dinner at well-known places to keep up appearances, dinners I never got to enjoy at all.
Sometimes we’d dine with businessmen who only met to size up each other and their wives who were either too absorbed with the latest trends or gossip to care about food. Even eating had become stressful with them around because they had to always count the calories and question me each time they would see me take a bite as if that was a mortal sin.
‘Don’t you care about your figure, Elianna?’ they would often ask. ‘With the way you’re eating, what if your husband leaves you for another woman? I don’t think you’re aware that there are many out there who deserve him more.”
And then Landon would be to the rescue, showing off by saying he would love me either way, that he would desire me no matter my size and then proceeded to only give me bottled water the next day as punishment.
With the girls in this land, despite Lizbeth’s outburst, I enjoved the pasta especially the dessert. They ate as much as they wanted and didn’t give a damn about it.

Shanty shrugged. “Alright. It’s not like you’ll try to escape. Two iter eie will help you anyway. If you try to run, you’ll die. You know that, right? We’ll shift and tear you piece by piece and then we’ll roast you and feed you to the rogues outside

this realm.”
That was a very vivid plan. Did they already have that in mind when they led me to their car?
And here I thought we were starting to form some sort of camaraderie through cake sharing. I placed my hands behind me. so they wouldn’t see them trembling although it seemed useless since they could hear the sound of my fear through my heartbeat.
“You don’t have to threaten me, you know. Look, I don’t know your experiences with other humans but rest assured, some of us do know how to actually use our brains. I’ll never run away from a pack of wolves with feet like mine. I’ll never even dream of it.”
Lizbeth nodded. “Most humans don’t have common sense. But you do. That’s good.”
My forehead creased. “Okay. Thank you, I guess?”
Shanty, Carmie, and Silver giggled. “Come back in thirty minutes, Eli. We’ll watch you from here.”
Although it was nice to share a meal with people who didn’t judge me for my food choices and who let me eat freely, it was still a bit suffocating to be around them for a long time knowing that they could make their threats come true and tear me apart in a blink of an eye. They were still predators in fashionable clothes.
Relieved, I stepped out of the restaurant and took a few deep breaths. I walked and walked aimlessly until I found myself standing at the bridge with a clearer view of the mountains. It was so beautiful that I felt like I was staring at a postcard.
Who would have thought that I’d get to be in a scenic place like this? I thought I’d live and die in my prison. I was still in another prison, but it was so big I could get to walk like this. Some people still stared at me and glared, but I didn’t want to care right now. My mind was already too crowded with too many thoughts about their alpha who happened to have given me the kind of pleasure no one ever did before.
The same man who had also given me one of the most peaceful moments of my life. I had a good sleep and felt… surprisingly relaxed when I woke up. Creed was gone when I opened my eyes, but when I smelled his scent on the pillow and the sheets, something inside me seemed to have calmed down.
What happened to him anyway?
But then I shook my head. Curiosity wouldn’t do me any good.
“Why did you only show up now? Do you know how many messages I sent you? I called you many times, but you didn’t answer, Emma! How could you?!”
The teenage boy’s yelling disrupted my peace. He was pointing a finger at another teenager who looked like she was on the verge of crying.
“You cheated on me, Jonathan! I’m only here to break up with you because unlike you, I have manners.”
I shook my head. Wherever I went, boys were usually the problem. They were at the center of the bridge. Now that my peace was stolen, I started walking away.
“It’s your fault! You didn’t want to have sex with me. And no, you can’t break up with me, Emma.”
“I can and I will.”
I didn’t know what happened next, but I heard a loud gasp that stopped me. When I looked back, I saw the boy snatching the girl’s bracelet and then throwing it at the river.
“Why did you do that? I told you that was my only memory of my mother!”
The boy just smirked. “And now you lost it. Good riddance!”
The girl, now panicking, jumped down the river. Her boyfriend, or her ex, saw it and just walked away, still grinning. I’d never met a teenager I wanted to strangle until I saw him. I would have ignored the whole thing. The girl was a shifter which meant she was stronger. She would survive. But when I looked down, I noticed that the girl didn’t know how to swim.
What the hell?
I looked around. There were no other people around here. Not even the girls. Did I walk too far? Without another thought, I removed my jacket and sandals. The last thing I heard was Shanty’s screams when I followed the girl and dived.
“Eli! That’s a cursed river, damn it!”
