“Why? What is wrong with my son?”

I blinked twice and stared at Her Majesty. Never in my life did I think that I would have a chance like this to speak and have breakfast with her. The photos of Silver McAllister in the magazines and newspapers didn’t do her justice.

She looked very stunning and regal despite the robe she put on to conceal her royal identity. She made me understand where Aidan’s composure and elegance came from. The mother and son seemed like they were from another world.

The Queen was clearly here to tell me to stay away from the prince like what they usually did in movies. That’s why hearing the defensiveness in her voice after I told her I wouldn’t get involved with her son was startling. Shouldn’t she be happy about it? Why did she look offended instead?

I scratched my forehead. “His Highness said he likes me. There goes the problem, your majesty.”

“What’s wrong with that?”

I didn’t think I had to point this out to another McAllister. It was like talking to, Aidan again. “I’m a man.”

“And?”

“I’m an alpha too.”

*So?”

Wow. Even their personalities were the same. There was no judgment in her eyes either like she was genuinely puzzled. This was not the direction I was hoping for. Wasn’t this the time where the Queen ought to be offering me a bunch of money to run away? I was already thinking about what to ask her. Or how much to ask her.

‘We can’t be together.”

She gripped her cup. “Who said that?”

‘Ah… everybody?”

She frowned adorably. “Give me their names. I will deal with them.”

What’s going on? Why did she look enraged about those people? “Aren’t you here to tell me to stay away, your majesty?”

‘Why? Are you going to hurt my son?”

“No,” I answered too quickly which made her eyes crinkle with amusement. I shouldn’t have done that. But I meant it. If Aidan wouldn’t act like any of those alphas who caged me, then I wouldn’t include him on my target list. But that was it. 1 wasn’t crazy enough to offer anything more than that.

“Are you going to make him happy then?”

“No.”

I wasn’t sure I still knew what being happy meant. How could I bring happiness to others when I couldn’t even make myself happy?

Her forehead creased. She ran the tips of her fingers around her cup as if she was deliberating things in her head. “Then if I

ask you what it will take for you to turn your back on my son, what will your response be?”

“A thorough investigation of the House Lemadon.”

Her hand on her cup froze. She clearly wasn’t expecting that. I had to seize this opportunity. This might not happen again. I surrounded us with mana so no one else would hear our conversation.

“The men there, especially their alpha, are caging omegas, your majesty. They visit orphanages and lure little girls, offering them a family and a pack to protect and love them only to breed them to other alphas or sell them to auction houses. I can’t tell you how I know about it but I can tell you where they can be found.”

I handed her the detailed sketch I did on my first day here and pointed to a specific place. “There was one pack who investigated them before but failed to find anything suspicious. This is tricky because from the outside, this place looks like an old greenhouse. But once you get through the second door which looks like a bathroom door, it will lead you underground where they hide the omegas.” I told her about the hidden door disguised as a life-sized mirror inside the bathroom. “They need help, your majesty. I know it’s hard to believe me. We just met today after all but if you could just launch an investigation, if you could save the omegas there, I promise I will do anything you want. You can even have my life-”

She held my hand as if stopping me from talking. I bit my lower lip as tears clouded my vision. What did I expect? That a Queen would listen to a complete stranger? She must have heard about my reputation in this Academy. What right did I have to demand anything? Who was I to even think that? She barely knew me..

“I apologize, your majesty.” I lowered my head. I shouldn’t cry in front of her. I wasn’t weak like that. “That was presumptuous of me.”

The Queen lifted my chin with her gentle hand. “You ought to value your life more, Ari.”

My lips parted. She smiled and folded the paper carefully before tucking them in her sling bag. “You have my word. I will have them investigated as soon as possible.”
