Chapter 163

(Aidan)

“Code red, your highness.”

This was the second time I had to shift to get to Ari as quickly as possible. The first time was last night. Upon hearing Daniel’s report, Sebastian followed me all the way to our omega’s secret hideout which would no longer be a secret from this day onwards.

I knew my parents would find out about the commotion in the academy. However, I did not expect that the Luna Queen would act this quickly about it. She would typically summon me back to the palace and demand an explanation. For her to leave the palace, it meant she certainly heard about Ari, and she was aiming for her.

My mother was not the type to make a scene although when triggered, she had no problem raising her voice and using her omega dominance and position to make sure her point had gotten across.

Maybe that was the reason why I anticipated a confrontation. A mess. A problem. A code red, like what my second-in- command called it. I was certain that Sebastian thought the same. Otherwise, he would not have bolted from the dormitory with me.

It slipped my mind that Ari was never without surprises. Here he was, sitting under the tree comfortably with a gallon of ice cream in her hands, eating with a smile big enough to reveal the beautiful dimples on her cheeks while my mother watched with amusement.

“The palace prepares the best ice cream in the city. Is that your favorite flavor? I will bring you a sample with that flavor on my next visit.”

Ari’s eyes glistened. “Really? Then can I please have two gallons of different flavors, Auntie? Strawberry and pistachio.”

To my surprise, my mother tapped the tip of Ari’s nose. “Oh, lucky you. I happen to always have them in my fridge, especially pistachio. That’s my best friend’s favorite too. Not to brag but the Dragon Queen likes our pistachio the most out of all the realms.”

Ari gasped. “That’s how good it is?”

“Of course.”

“Then can you show me some mercy and visit again tomorrow, auntie? You can’t tease me like that and visit after a month. That would be too cruel for my stomach.”

My mother giggled. After sending me to the borders, I did not see her smile and laugh like that again. Until today. That was Ari’s power.

When she was still a little girl, there were no tantrums that could not be solved by food. No matter what she felt, whether she had fever, a stomachache, or helplessness made by her powers, as long as she had what she wanted to eat in her tiny hands, she would beam and would forget about anything else. Her focus would immediately shift on her excitement and happiness about the food.

I was relieved to know that part of her did not change all these years.

Sebastian, who had just shifted in his human form, gaped at me. “Did you hear that? Ari called Her Majesty ‘Auntie. And she actually smiled. Heck, she even looks proud.”

I sighed in resignation. “Ari could charm anyone.”

“Yeah. Seems that way to me. Well, except for Bradley, I guess.”

My eyes flared in anger. “Your friend is an asshole.”

“Hey. He’s your friend too.”

“I’m currently reconsidering our friendship.”

I accepted the clothes Daniel got for me and Sebastian and put them on while watching the two women bonded like some mother and daughter. But when I noticed Ari’s slightly swollen eyes, a savage growl slipped from my lips, stealing their

attention.

In a few strides, I was already in front of Ari. After greeting my mother, I turned to my mate and cupped her cheeks. Did she cry?

“Are you alright?”

She met my eyes innocently. “I’m having the best morning, Aidan. The Queen treated me for breakfast and promised me a ton of beef for lunch. Also, this.” She lifted her ice cream. “It’s been a long time since I had this. Would you like some?”

I was told that Ari passed out in the middle of complying with Bradley’s punishment. I checked her body for injuries. Her mana was stable now compared to when I saw her last night. Her body was also in top shape. My assumption was right. Sleeping beside her mates helped her recuperate faster. But last night’s tension and this morning’s worry still made me pull her to me.

I needed to feel her warmth to convince myself that she was okay, that she was safe. I brought her to my arms and breathed. in her scent. The tightness in my chest instantly loosened and then I closed my eyes and let her presence calmed the storm inside me.

I covered my mouth in shock. Even beasts needed their safe spaces too. Even beasts needed a home and the moment we found our mate, our houses stopped having meaning to us, and people started becoming our home. After my son lost his mate, I had always hoped that our palace would be enough for a home for him while he was still recovering from the tragedy.

That did not come true though.

Even at the palace, Aidan was restless. He may have controlled his wolf better now, but both the human and the beast were constantly on edge, constantly furious, and in pain which was every mother’s nightmare. His wolf’s howls at night always crushed my heart.

Everyone was wary of Aidan because he was like a ticking time bomb who could explode anytime. It was as if seeing Creed’s younger and temperamental version all over again before he met Eli. People like them lived in gray.

Today, a miracle happened.

After years of praying, the Moon Goddess had shown us mercy. My eyes became glossy with tears. Ari brought my son home. Today, I watched as peace filled his eyes. I heard how his raging heart quieted. I witnessed how his wolf calmed down. I saw how his fury about the world melted.

And it was in the form of this young man. Ari could not fool me enough even if he tried. He may have been eating cheerfully with me but there was still chaos somewhere in those purple eyes of his and that chaos lessened when my son

came to him.

However, that was not the only revelation for today. Sebastian was with us as well. And he was marching towards the two. I was about to stop him from interrupting when something happened. His earlier furious beast started humming. And Ari’s

wolf responded. My son’s wolf and Sebastian hummed for Ari, something that only alphas did for their mates. The two men wrapped their arms around Ari and shut their eyes, forming a group hug in the process.

I took a step back upon seeing the glow that formed around them. Where was it coming from? From Ari? I had seen that glow from Eli and Creed although theirs were different. Eli’s was golden, Creed’s was crimson, and Ari’s was the shade of the ocean on a sunny day. Blue.
