Chapter 173

(Ari)

The guards dragged me outside the dining hall. I saw Nero entering. He dropped his bag upon seeing me. Before he could approach me, I shook my head, hoping he would understand. Satan was still around. If he saw Nero making a fuss, he might command the guards to drag him into the disciplinary room too.

He got the message and clenched his hands.

Sophie was in tears in a corner. I tried to give her a reassuring smile but ended up groaning when the guards accidentally pressed against my shoulders. The pain was so severe I passed out. When I opened my eyes again, I wished I didn’t. I wished I could just collapse again because the pain was growing more and more every second and I didn’t want to stay awake to feel it. There was no part of my body that was not screaming from the agonizing pain.

Why… was living so hard for someone like me? I wasn’t asking for too much. I just wanted to live with Dani in a faraway place. Since we lacked the funds, we’d probably end up renting a small apartment. I’d work hard while she studied. Maybe we won’t always be happy together, but we’ll be safe.

That was my dream.

All I craved was an ordinary life. But I’d been in survival mode from the start. Was I cursed? Was I awful in my first life that’s why I was being punished in this life?

Did I… really deserve this?

By the time the guards tossed me into the disciplinary room, I could no longer feel my shoulders. My eyesight started to

blur.

A week in this room? I laughed which only worsened the wounds in my face. At this rate, I wouldn’t last a day. I would probably die from blood loss in a few hours.

The irony of my mate putting me to my death.

My chest tightened. Even breathing was a struggle. I could feel my glamour beginning to fade. No. This could not happen. If I were going to die, it should not be in this place. I tried to cast one last spell. The phone that I hid through mana reappeared in front of me. I forced my fingers to move and was able to dial Aidan’s number.

“Love, this is a surprise. You called me first-”

My chest heaved. He sounded really happy. Too bad I wouldn’t get to hear it again.

“A-Aidan…” My tears fell. “I’m… leaving my sister in your c-care.”
