Chapter 178

Present Time

(Aidan)

55 volichard

A tear rolled down my cheek as I tenderly wiped the sweat off Ari’s body. Without her glamour, all her secrets were laid before me and Bradley. Every scar on her milky skin had a story that we could both see through her memories. Every cigarette burn mark showcased the hell she endured for many years.

If I thought Bradley looked haunted before, it was worse today.

I died from every scar. He crumbled from every memory. It made perfect sense. Ari had already suffered in the hands of the alphas. And he added salt to her fresh wounds.

If I could bring her abusers back to life just to tear them and burn them as many times as possible, I would do it. While we all lived wealthy lives, never having to worry about food and shelter, she spent nights alone in a dark room, malnourished, naked, and starving.

I always wondered why her voice was hoarse. I knew now that it was because she screamed so much until it turned that way.

My tears fell onto her back. I put my shirt on her with all the gentleness I could muster and placed her on my lap, rocking her softly as she twisted and turned from another nightmare. I kissed her eyelids. If I could take all her nightmares so she could sleep peacefully, I would.

But how?

“Wake up, my little spitfire. That time of your life is over,” I whispered helplessly. “You have us now. Tell us how we can make it up to you. Please. How do we make you feel better? How do we lessen the pain? How… Do we make you forget?”

Even in Ari’s dark past, she still gave me a reason to fall for her. I saw how scared she was that night she saved Eighteen. I saw her hands hesitate briefly. She knew what would happen to her. And still did it anyway.

She saved another tormented soul when she could not even save herself. She did it to other omegas plenty of times, especially for the one she considered her sister. She took punishments on their behalf. We could barely see the skin on her back properly through the countless long and deep vicious scars she carried.

How admirable. How utterly selfless. My love was one brave soul. I waited for the right woman. I fell for the right person.

But she was so tiny. How could anyone land their filthy hands on her? How could anyone be so shameless and cruel?

“Sebastian,” Bradley muttered when Ari remained trapped in her nightmare. This had been going on the entire night. He looked as helpless as I was. “He has been calling me nonstop. He has to be here as well. Maybe if all her mates are here, it would help heal her faster and bring her back to the both of you.” He read the question in my eyes. He glanced away. “Ari is never going to forgive me and I understand. I don’t deserve her forgiveness.”

He didn’t.

I was not going to sugarcoat it to make him feel better.

“But it does not mean I will stop trying to beg for it. I will spend as many years as I have to make it up to her,” Bradley added. “For now, I will tell my assistant to bring Sebastian over.”

“The glamour-”

“Leave it to me.”

Ari didn’t want anyone else to know about her identity. It was bad enough that Bradley found out accidentally. If Sebastian were to know, it had to be her choice and not because we stripped her off her right to decide.

Bradley used his draconic mana to bring back her glamour although since the caster was not the owner of the body, it was not as flawless as Ari’s. The marks on her back remained visible, mocking us about our failure to protect our woman.

Bradley bolted out of the room while I held the woman who owned us.

She needed more than us. She needed all the people who truly loved her, who would worship the very land she walked on. She needed her family. The problem was that even if I could obtain Zane and Ari’s blood samples, it would not be enough evidence. For supernatural beings, a mana test was more efficient than the blood test because blood tests can be forged just like what the women who pretended to be the dragon princess did countless times before.

Ari needed their presence, but the dragon royals had an emergency. The dragon queen was currently sick, that’s why Lord Creed summoned Zane back. He was supposed to pass by, but he had to travel back to his realm immediately to attend to his mother.

“If you wake up, if you just open your eyes, I’m going to transfer all my properties under your name. From there, you can pick which one you want to live in,” I vowed. “You will have endless access to all my cards. You will be as wealthy as the queen, my love.”

To my surprise, she opened her eyes. In a weak and raspy voice, she asked, “D-do you mean that?”
