Chapter 26
(Eli)

Future Luna? I at least knew what that word meant courtesy of my new friends. If Katrice’s name didn’t come up in all our previous conversations, then either they hid it from me or this woman was just imagining things.
After all, Creed introduced me to everyone as his mate. If he already had a luna in mind, he wouldn’t have done that, he wouldn’t have spoken to the lords like some barbaric alpha after they mistook my name. He wouldn’t have disrespected her through me.
I stood straight as a smirk passed over my lips. I couldn’t help it. I knew I should behave but Black was not here anyway. And I was so done feeling small just to appease entitled people.
“Bow? To you? And why would I? Black couldn’t even make me bow to him and I’m supposed to do that to you?”
Katrice looked at me like I’d grown claws and fangs. “How dare you just refer to Lord Creed like that, you boorish wench? Get your act together. If you must know, I am Lord Rune’s eldest daughter from the House of Willers-”
“And I’m Lauren’s only daughter from the House of Dawson.”
She frowned. “Who is Lauren? And what house is that?”
I shrugged. “You don’t know her the same way I don’t know who your father is. Now, kindly excuse me. I have to go back to Black. I’m sure my mate is waiting for me.”
And because I was feeling petty, I just had to emphasize the word ‘mate. What was happening to me?
Just when I was about to pass by her, she gripped my arm. I struggled not to wince and knew instantly that it would bruise. I should be scared. But my irritation was bigger than whatever fear I was supposed to feel for this woman. Why was Katrice targeting me like this? Who was she in Creed’s life? Why didn’t anyone tell me about her?
“This is your last warning. Leave Lord Creed alone, wench. I don’t care whether you are the princess’ hero. I don’t even buy that bullshit. A good for nothing insect like you does not deserve a man like him.”
I sighed and raised my hands, surrendering. “Fine. I won’t argue. You win. My mama taught me not to argue with grandmas. Whatever you say, let’s just assume that you are right, grandma.”
Pure rage burned her eyes. “What did you just call me?”
I didn’t want to pull the age card as much as possible. But then I read her age from the magazine. Although it didn’t look like it, Katrice was a decade older than Creed who was a hundred and two. All these ancient people kept harassing me. What was wrong with them?
Her eyes turned gold. Any moment now and I was sure she would shift when Prince Terrence passed by.
“Katrice. Elianna. I didn’t expect to see you both here.”
In an instant, the woman shifted her attitude. Her friendly façade was back as she smiled sweetly at the prince. She let me go and lowered her head demurely.
“Greetings, your highness. I was just chatting with the human, hoping we could be friends.” She clutched her chest as she glanced at me, suddenly looking heartbroken. “But she rejected the offer.”
“Is that so? Well, Elianna must be threatened. She must have heard about you being her mate’s potential luna,” Terrence said casually.
“Is that true, Elianna? I assure you, you have nothing to worry about. I will treat you as good as Lord Creed treats you.”

Chapter 26
“No, thanks. I don’t feel like kissing you and sleeping next to you.”
Her jaw dropped and I grinned. Before she could speak, Terrence quickly put himself between us.
“Rune was looking for you, Katrice. Hurry. You know how impatient your father is.”
“Then I shall go now, your highness.” She glanced at me and softly smiled even if she was probably cursing me with her eyes. “I know you didn’t mean what you said earlier. I forgive you. I sincerely hope that you’ll give me a chance to be close to you, Elianna. After all, we will be under one pack very soon.”
The minute she left, Terrence took one glance at me and then burst into laughter as he held his stomach.
I clenched my hands. “It must have been fun making your own assumptions about me. For your information, your highness, I did not feel threatened. Not at all!”
“I know you weren’t, Elianna. I heard everything.” He wiped the tear in his eye. “That’s why I didn’t interrupt sooner. If I was a second late though, she would have sank her claws in you. I still can’t believe you called her ‘Grandma’ just like that.”
“It’s the truth. It’s disrespectful to debate with grandmas. What if they get heart attacks or something?”
My fake concern made the prince sink onto the chair, still laughing hard.
“Goddess, I don’t think I have ever laughed like this when chatting with the nobles. I have never met a woman like you before, Elianna. I like you. Can you ditch Creed and be mine instead?”
