Chapter 27
(Creed)
“I can’t wait to be married to you, my lord.”

Fortunately, Vicious was not here when K approached me, invaded my personal space, and boldly brushed her lips against mine in front of the guests. Otherwise, she would have snapped and would have bitten the hell out of me for the world to see. When prompted, she could be more ferocious than any of the wolves here.
I looked around us, at the alphas I was talking to, who were gaping at us while some pretended to keep themselves occupied although I knew their attention was in the scandal this woman was creating. And the credit went to the king who walked back into the hall, looking like he lost a war.
With a heavy sigh, he went to his throne while the celebration started with the orchestra. The guests’ eyes were on the performers although their ears were on us. I had met K on several occasions although she was not as bold as the previous times. One big reason could be because of Lizbeth who had served as my date back then. Knowing my sister’s reputation, no woman could get through her.
Lizbeth used to be the best shield when it came to women. Right now, though, she was busy dancing with Dale.
And my supposed human shield was nowhere in sight. Vicious was either badmouthing me at the moment or eating to her heart’s delight, two things she seemed to enjoy the most.
“It was His Majesty who proposed the deal, K. Never me. Although if you wish to continue the wedding, then I guess it’s possible…”
Her eyes glistened. “I knew you would come to your senses, my lord. The wedding-
“Will only happen if the King decides to marry again.”
Her smile vanished. “I beg your pardon?”
“Since both of you seem quite eager to get married, how about marrying each other instead? I heard he is not dating anyone right now. And you are single.”
If the King could hear me right now, he would have shifted and dealt with me with his wolf although unlike what he did to his daughter’s lover, he wouldn’t send me to prison. He couldn’t. Not to the man who conquered the humans, not to his General who protected his borders from the outside forces. The most he could do was put me on a house arrest which I would actually appreciate. It would mean more time with my wild cat.
K’s entire face turned red as surprised gasps and suppressed laughter were heard around us. I did not want to do this as much as possible. She forced me to. She had seen my reaction the first time this subject was brought out and still insisted on calling me her fiancé while spreading rumors about us along with her pack, believing His Majesty would back them up.
Well, he could do that.
As long as he would accept my resignation.
“My lord!” she sobbed. “Why would you say such cruel words to me? We are-”
“There is no ‘we’, K. It’s all in your head. I suggest you leave now before Elianna returns,” I said instead. “My mate is a bit deranged. She bites people.”
“Mate bonds only become strong if two shifters are involved, my lord. Your link with the human is weak. You need a stronger partner. If your reason for refusing me is because of Elianna, I don’t mind if she becomes your second woman. We could be good together. Please reconsider. You are even giving me a nickname already-”

“You misunderstood again. I’m sorry. The only reason I call you that is because the only thing I remember about you is your initial. Now if you would excuse me…”
I turned my back and wiped my lips before grabbing another glass from the waiter I saw.
“I look away for a second and you made a scene again, brother,” Lizbeth commented, sighing, as she stood next to me as if I did not see her kick a certain guy’s groin when the latter drunkenly approached their table and tried hitting on her, causing quite a commotion as the drunkard screamed. It happened as soon as Vicious left with the princess, and also the reason why His Majesty had to excuse himself to get some fresh air.
At this rate, the two of us would be prohibited from attending any party before the night ended which would work to our benefit. Who would want to meet the same people for decades?
“I always knew that poor woman is into you. Katrice has been trying to get your attention for years which only became possible with His Majesty’s interference-”
“I don’t give a damn. I smelled Vicious on her, Lizbeth.” My eyes flared in anger. “For her scent to linger on that woman’s skin meant they had quite an encounter. She tried to get her hands on my mate. She was lucky that was all I did.”
Her expression shifted in a second. “What? You should have told me. I’d have pulled that woman’s hair at least! How dare she lay her hand on my favorite human?!”
“Now you know why I didn’t tell you.” I patted her shoulder. “I’ll see you later, Liz. I’ll go find Vicious before she bites someone else.”

“Wouldn’t you want a prince instead of a lord?” His Highness asked, his playful smile was gone now, as he watched me intently with his crystal-blue eyes.
Terrence Beckett wasn’t a typical handsome and masculine alpha. He had a face that was too beautiful to belong to a man. He looked as tall as Creed although his body was more on the leaner side. He looked like the type to charm women unlike the mountain-sized and tattooed lord he was talking about who could crush men and women alike with his bare hands.
But his charm didn’t do wonders to me, his gaze, his scent, and his presence didn’t affect me like some asshole did, he didn’t make my blood sing. In fact, my heart was the calmest it had ever been, almost like it had fallen asleep while talking to him.
“Does it matter if you’re a prince? You’re not Black.”
Not to mention that he reminded me of my husband way too much because of his dating history. He was Carmie’s long- time crush, but I heard that many women from the noble houses had already shared his bed. He never settled with just one girl. What would I do with another headache?
“Ouch. You don’t really hold back on your words, do you? How brutal.”
“Thanks. Black said it’s one of my best qualities.”
He chuckled, only to stop and frown as he glanced behind me. “For crying out loud, calm your beast, Creed! I didn’t do anything to Elliana. I simply gave her an option. The seat for my crown princess is still available after all.”
What was wrong with the people here? They all seemed to have an unhealthy habit of trying to pick a fight anywhere. Creed’s wolf was already on edge. Carmie said that the two men were friends, but tonight, it didn’t look like that to me.
There was a look in Terrence’s eyes that I couldn’t decipher. I’d noticed that the first time I saw him. Despite his playful expression, he looked at Creed too competitively. Or was it just friendly rivalry?
“Elianna is unavailable, Terrence. You have known that from the beginning.”
“Right.” The prince nodded and scratched his head. “I forgot. She has a husband.”

“Not because of that.” Creed growled as he wrapped his arm around my waist in a possessive manner. And I didn’t hate it.. “She has a mate.”
I cleared my throat. “She’ is right here, you know, and guess what? She can hear you both.”
They turned to me at the same time, their expressions unreadable. But when the staff came, informing us that dinner was served, my stomach chose the perfect moment to make a noise, making the men grin as they shook their heads like I was the problem here.
“Come,” Creed said and led me inside the castle, deliberately putting a huge distance between me and the prince. “Time to feed the wolf in your stomach.”
If only that was the case.
Joining us was no other than the king, his heir, and the council, in the twenty-four-seater long table while the rest of the guests remained in the function room to have their dinner there. There was countless food on the table, but their fierce eyes
were on me.
I felt Creed’s large hand on my thigh as if he was reminding me that I wasn’t alone. If he meant to distract me from all these predators, it was working, just not in the way I wanted, because his hand was so dangerously close to my center that I couldn’t help the gasp that escaped my mouth, making everyone’s eyes narrow while he just chuckled.
Damn him.
And here I thought I was almost halfway through surviving the night.
As it turned out, the real challenge was just beginning.

“In this realm, the most sacred bond is a mate bond. It’s a gift from the Moon Goddess. Not everyone gets to have it, that’s why it is highly treasured. It is far greater than marriage. Speaking of which, I heard you are married to a human, Elianna. Is
that true?”
I glanced at the food longingly. It looked like I wouldn’t be able to eat properly tonight. I cleared my throat and said. “It’s true, your majesty.”
“What a mess.”
All men at the table nodded in solidarity except Creed and Terrence. The lords were looking at me like it wasn’t just my marriage life that was messy but me, like I was something that needed fixing, judging me without knowing my story.
I couldn’t summon the same courage I had when I talked to Katrice or the prince. Or else I might lose the money that was promised to me. Hiding from Landon who had connections everywhere would require so much money, especially since I didn’t know when I could land a decent job without him and his family interfering, that’s why I swallowed back my words along with my pride.
So, what if they thought so little of me? I wasn’t going to see them after this anyway. This would be our first and last time meeting each other.
“What are you going to do about it?” the King probed just when I was about to finally have a taste of the grilled beef.
“Their divorce is currently being processed, your majesty,” Creed answered in the same nonchalant tone I was used to. The only indication that he was now in a foul mood was the slight twitch in his eye and a hard squeeze on my thigh.
The King’s brow knitted as he tossed a glance at my direction and then at Creed’s as if we had offended him somehow with his answer.
“Good. Toss the male human as soon as possible. Your mate is here. Whether I like it or not, you now belong to this realm. You must cut off all connections you have with any of them.”
“I’m afraid I can’t do that, your majesty,” I answered and abandoned any thoughts of eating in front of them.
“What are you saying, Elianna? Do you have plans of returning to the human realm?”
“Yes, your majesty. My world is in there. My mother is there too. Of course, I need to go back. I’m only here for thirty days anyway.”
The King growled and I almost dropped the glass of wine I was holding out of shock. His stabbing gaze landed on Creed. “What is she talking about?”
“I was busy with work. We haven’t had the luxury to discuss certain things, your majesty,” Creed spoke calmly. “Rest assured, we will notify you of whatever decisions we end up making.”
Creed glanced at me and slightly moved his head as if he was encouraging me to play along. I bit my lower lip to stop myself from answering.
Thankfully, Terrence tactically led the conversation on borders and packs, winking at me after seeing my shoulders sag with
relief.
“What can I say? Having mana changes people,” the King said after some time when their subject fell onto a simple beta who married his mate who was a mage. She shared her mana or some sort of magical powers with him. The beta deserted his pack and transferred to the mage realm, believing he would have a better life there only to realize that his wolf had weakened to an alarming degree. His story made us all realize that a shifter cannot be a mage at the same time. He had to
