Claimed By My Husband's Enemy novel Chapter 28

Chapter 28

choose just one master.

He chose mana and his wolf died. But the mana he possessed turned out to be the weakest in his new realm. I tried not to massage my throbbing temple due to information overload.

So, mages were real too? What about aliens?

“Mana is like money to humans,” His Majesty added. “They would do anything for it, even die for it. Some people just cannot be content about what they have.” Just when I thought they were done grilling me, Aramides turned to me again. “What about you, human? If you are granted powers, what will you do?”

An easy question. Finally.

“I’ll go find my husband.”

The dining hall fell into a tense silence. I heard multiple growls.

Creed emptied his drink and took his hand off me. “Let’s just please drop this conversation, your majesty. All of this in one night is too much for Elianna.”

“If you are going to refuse the woman I chose for you just for this human, I need to at least make sure that you are making the right decision, Creed. I am asking her a question. Let her speak for herself,” the King answered in a chilly voice that made me shiver.

“Pardon my alpha, your majesty,” I said softly when I saw Creed’s face darkening. This time, I was the one who reached for his hand under the table, squeezing it. I didn’t know where he got the confidence to contradict the king in front of his council. So far, this was his second strike. He couldn’t keep offending all of them. What if something happened to him? Who would bring me back to my realm?

“Every now and then, Creed still forgets humans have tongues. We can speak for ourselves,” I added with a smile.

Aramides’ attention returned to me. “Finding your husband is the first thing you are going to do after becoming powerful? Why?”

“So, I can fucking destroy him.” My eyes widened when I realized I blurted that directly in front of the most powerful man in this realm. Their jaws dropped. Was it because of the promise of violence in my eyes? I blinked twice, suddenly sweating hard. “I’m so sorry for swearing,” I spoke quickly and tried to ignore the way Terrence, who was sitting directly in front of me, covered his mouth although his eyes were twinkling and his shoulders were shaking. “I mean given the chance; I’ll destroy him. Respectfully.”

I added the last word in honor of the people I was dining with, so it wouldn’t come out too crass. Everything about Landon triggered my violent tendencies these days. The more I thought about him, the more my fear was taken over by my anger.

All of them were still disturbingly quiet although Creed’s hand was back on my thigh. I felt his hand slide higher, sensually massaging me there as if he was rewarding me. There was now a ghost of a smile on his rosy lips.

“You must have realized how evil and greedy humans are. Good for you. Knowing who your husband is, what you want to do to him should not be surprising anymore,” Aramides commented, suddenly looking pleased. “Greedy people are truly

the scariest.”

“In my opinion, I think it’s the people who feel dead inside that are the scariest, your majesty. They’d do anything to feel alive. They’d steal, even kill.” I cleared my throat. “I also don’t think it’s fair to treat all humans the same just because you had an ugly experience with some of them. The twelve families involved in the crimes of the past are the only people who knew about the shifters. They do not even make up one fourth of the human population.”

A light squeeze on my thigh made me continue. “When I watched the news the other day, there were some bigger packs who treated smaller packs unfairly. Back at the Romualdez River, after seeing the princess jump at the bridge, her ex walked away.”

“What are you trying to say, human?” the King asked in a menacing voice as he pointed his steak knife at me. Thank God i was not standing or else, my knees would have crumbled. “That I am not ruling my people properly? That I am failing as a king?”

“I-I would never assume that, your majesty. I just think it’s fair to say that all realms are the same. Shifters or not, we all have some light and darkness within us. It’s up to us which part we’ll allow to win. Just like how you let the light win.”

His brow raised. “Me?”

“Yes, your majesty. I read about your contributions to this realm, and I was very amazed. You didn’t let what happened to your family change you. You stood your ground and led the realm fairly. Maybe that’s the reason why there are fewer crimes here. The people adored you and respected you.” I turned to the council lords. “Aside from that, you have a brilliant set of council. Just like Lord Amadeo. The way you handled the pact dispute a few days ago? That was touching, my lord.”

I watched that from the news. Pack Damas was the ruling pack in a particular province. Pack Damas’ alpha was Amadeo’s adopted beloved child. I saw the pain in his eyes as he delivered the news firmly and sent the alpha to the prison. The smaller pack won and got their land back.

“What about me? Do you know me as well?” Lord Cristos asked.

“Of course, my lord.” I told him what I knew about him, his smile widened as he lifted his chin proudly. The rest of the lords. started asking as well. One by one, I told them what they wanted to hear.

“Your mate has a very keen eye on people, Lord Creed,” Lord Dancio remarked. “And she did her research well. I could say it was not rehearsed.” He laughed. “Because I got to see you surprised for the very first time.”

“Right.” Lord Cristos grinned. “Good job, Elianna. I think you just made your alpha fall for you. Look at him, acting like a lovesick puppy for his mate.”

He was wrong.

Because when I turned to Creed, he looked far from a lovesick puppy. In fact, he looked very much like a wolf who was planning how to eat me in a way that we both would enjoy, judging by the heat in his eyes.

And a big part of me was telling me that I wouldn’t hate to be eaten.

Not this time.

And not by him.
