Chapter 42

(Eli)

“If you ever need someone to call, you know my number.”

Terrence looked like he wanted to pull me to an embrace after seeing my expression but decided against it. He sighed and took my hand instead and pressed a kiss on my knuckles.

“I will hear you out any time, Elianna. I promise you that.”

Promise.

I heard that stupid word again.

How could I still believe that? How could I still believe another shifter? Another Black lied to me again. And not just any Black, not just any shifter. But the very man I’d been unconsciously relying on these past weeks. At first, I thought Terrence just said those words to get a rise out of me.

But the more I thought about it, the more my suspicions grew. When I was sane enough the other day to remember the important things aside from getting into bed with Creed, I contacted Sheena, my mother’s nurse.

She just texted, saying she was outside the hospital and that’s why she couldn’t accept my call. When I went to Creed’s office, I didn’t see the footage of my mom through his screen. He said they were having a technical problem. Yesterday, he said his team was still fixing it while Sheena gave me another excuse. Today as well.

The nurse was on leave, and another nurse was assisting my mother. She told me she would hand me the current nurse’s contact info, but it was afternoon now and she still hadn’t done that. When I excused myself to call Sheena again, her phone was off. I went to Creed’s office, and the door was locked.

“Where did you get the information?” I asked the prince instead, a chill slithering down my spine.

“It was one of the things we discussed during the meeting today. After the meeting, Creed left in a hurry. I initially thought he would be here.”

The bastard kept me in the dark. He knew how important my mother was to me. And still, he hid the truth from me. He had all the time in the world to tell me about her. He didn’t. He rolled on the bed with me for days, for crying out loud. Dale kept him posted every now and then. He had heard about my mom missing for sure.

Or did he just not care enough to inform me?

My head spiraled. I was sure my ex had something to do with this. Percy and Easton were not brave enough to pull this off. Only Landon would think of this trick. I knew he wouldn’t easily let me off the hook.

He knew my mother was my weakness.

This was his way of sending me a message.

He wanted me to return.

Now.

“Did you hear who took my mother?” I asked, trying to hide how rattled I was, but failing desperately.

Terrence shook his head. “I’m sorry, Elianna. All the CCTV footage were wiped out.”

“Take your hands off my mate, your highness.”

Chapter 42

Iclutched the dagger. Hearing that voice only ignited the rage in my chest. I’d never been this tempted to use the dagger Creed had given me except today. Worst of all, I wanted to use it on him. I walked out on the two alphas who were in a glaring contest with their growling wolves joining the fun.

62

They could all go to hell. Damn them. They were all the same, saying they would protect me but failing to protect me from themselves. I marched back at the shore and let out a scream.

“Vicious!”

I continued to walk. I couldn’t head inside. I was afraid I might end up damaging his house. Because that was the kind of rage I felt. Damaging. It was destroying me from the inside. My mom’s condition was just starting to get better. Under Landon’s supervision, she was in bad shape. He was ruthless. If I wouldn’t comply, he would do worse.

“Being with a prince by yourself could cause a scandal, Vicious. You shouldn’t have entertained him. You shouldn’t have let him near you at all. I thought you were terrified by shifters. What the hell did I just see? You two were standing too close to each other. And he was touching you.”

I kept walking.

“Vicious, didn’t you hear me?”

“I heard you loud and clear. I’m just choosing not to listen.”

Creed grabbed me by the hand and was about to argue with me when he saw the murder in my gaze. His expression softened. “What happened? What did he tell you?”

“Is it true that my mom has been missing for three days now?”

“Yes, but-”

I slapped him on the face. “Fuck you, Black.”
