Those three words threw me off balance, making my defenses fracture just a little. But when I remembered how trusting Creed almost ruined me, how my mom was somewhere I couldn’t reach, sick and weak, I hardened my heart.
Had I heard those words another time, I would have been on a cloud nine. Something was telling me that Creed was not the type of man who would go around saying that mushy line but then again, all the men I’d met so far lied so smoothly that it was normally too late for a woman before they realized they had fallen hook, line, and sinker.
Like I did with Landon.
Like I did when I thought Lizbeth would never hurt me, when I thought Creed was an ally. When I thought he had my back. When I thought I could lean on him and he could relate to me. This could be another trap.
“I was wrong.”
Creed’s admission nearly undid me. I’d never met a man who had the balls to admit his mistake in front of a woman. And I’d met a ton of them. In the society I came from where victim blaming was like a goddamn trend; this was a breath of fresh
air.
“My method of protecting you hurt you. I’m sorry.”
I didn’t realize I’d been waiting to hear that until he uttered those words. I didn’t even think Creed was capable of saying them. I gripped the box I was holding tightly. “Trapping me is different from protecting me, Black. In case you’re not aware, that’s what you’re doing right now. You are trapping me in this realm.”
“That’s because this is your realm as well. Vicious. You belong here. The sooner you accept that, the better.”
I had high hopes again. It was my fault for getting hurt this time. I expected that his apology would lead us somewhere.
“You wouldn’t want to go back to a realm like that again, Vicious. Not after Project X. Richards and the rest of the twelve families will hunt you once they find out who you are.”
“I won’t tell a soul about it, I swear!”
“Even if you do that, can you guarantee that Richards will not come after you? You may have money now, but you don’t have the kind of connection and security he has. If you are there, the team searching for your mother will have to be split into two, Vicious. One to protect you and the other to search for her. The job will be harder for them. For us. We can’t send too many elite soldiers to a foreign land. Only my pack knew the ins and outs, only selected men had the proper training. Involving more soldiers would be unsafe.”
I couldn’t speak. Because as much as it offended me to admit it, Creed had a point. He took one step closer and caressed my cheeks. And I almost closed my eyes. I missed his touch. I missed his skin on mine. The past nights, I no longer had nightmares, but I did have dreams of Creed stepping into my room, wiping my tears, and pulling me in his arms until both of us fell asleep only for me to wake up in an empty room while the door was locked.
And I’d curse him again for making me feel like this and then curse myself for looking for him. It was nothing but the mate bond talking. Nothing more.
Fucking biology, making me crave someone I was not supposed to.
“That doesn’t excuse what you did, Black. You still lied to me and made me a fool.”
“I would never do that intentionally. Not to you, Vicious. Think about it. With how you can have your way around here like no one else ever did before, no one would think you are a fool. Each time you would go out with my warriors beside you, with my pack’s emblem pinned on their uniforms, people would recognize you in an instant and think of just one thing.”

Chapter 46
“That I’m your captive?”
He bent down. Our lips were so close they were almost brushing against each other when he spoke, “That you have their lord crazy about you. You are not trapped in this realm. I would never clip your wings like that. I will find your mother, bring her here, give you anything and everything you need, except sending you away.”
“Why?”
His thumb pressed against my lower lip. “Because the thought of you being far away from me drives me mad to the point of being feral. I want you, Elianna Dawson. As vicious as you are.”
My pulse spiked.
There it was again. The flutter in my stomach.
I pushed him away from me, desperate for some distance as I tried to bring back clarity to my foggy mind because this man could do it so easily, he could make me unable to think just by being close to me.
“I don’t believe you, Black. And I don’t care what you say. I still hate you.”
“No, you don’t. You hate that you can’t hate me as much as you want to. I know because I feel the same way. As a matter of fact, I think you want me too, Vicious.”
Creed opened the door wider and stepped closer. With every step backwards I took, he would step forward like somehow, he had found out that his nearness was my weakness.
“You are just too damn stubborn to admit that you are lusting over a beast.”
“I’m not.” I took another step back and realized that I was caught between Creed and the glass wall behind me. “That’s not
true.”
“Then can you make yourself come?” he challenged as he eyed the vibrator like he wanted to set it on fire. “Can that thing really satisfy you, Vicious?”
“Of course.”
My face turned red. I couldn’t believe I stammered.
That ‘thing’ Creed was talking about like it was the villain in his life was the closest to his size and the biggest they had in store. It was the only store I strolled into where I refused to let the guards in, where I stood in front of the cashier helplessly, where I hoped that Creed wasn’t such a bastard so I wouldn’t be forced to buy anything from their shop because I knew nothing in the world could satisfy me the way his cock did, as monstrous as it was, where the staff took one look at the name on the card I was using and instantly blushed and knew why I stood there like an idiot.
They thought I was preparing for.their lord.
Creed’s teeth grazed my earlobe. “Prove it, Vicious. Show me.”
