Chapter 58
Chapter 58
(Creed)
A wolf who spent her whole life living with the lambs, thinking she was one of them. That was Vicious. Many humans thought she was meek, that she was an obedient wife who relied on her husband for every life decision, a beautiful decoration.

Living in her true realm brought out her fangs. She did not possess a beast of her own and she did not need that. Vicious did not know it yet, but she did not need to shift to protect herself. There was another side of her. I did not know it yet. I just knew it was more capable and more threatening than any werewolves could ever be.
Judging by what I had seen so far, Vicious could be a mage who had superior elemental gifts.
I scented Terrence’s wolf as he moved behind my back.
“There is another sighting of a dragon,” Terrence informed me and sauntered beside me on the second floor, carrying his own wine glass. The nobles lined up to offer their gifts to the woman they wanted to decapitate during the foundation party. But at Vicious’ welcome party tonight, they were all smiles and throwing praises.
“And so I heard,” I answered without wrenching my gaze away from my mate, watching for any sign of discomfort. “It was the same dragon from two weeks ago, probably the first dragon with heterochromia. Gold on the left eye and black on the right. A hatchling.”
“Still a dragon, nonetheless. Are you still in contact with any of them? Any idea why a dragon is suddenly roaming around our realm as if scoping our territory?”
“Why would they contact me? They fucking hate my guts. Besides, it was not like you don’t know the likes of them. They are elusive. Not to mention that dragon shifters deemed themselves too high and mighty to communicate with us mere werewolves.”
“Even Lilac?”
I pinned him with a murderous glare.
He laughed, amused. “What? Lilac was so into you. You used to shag that dragon shifter. Weren’t you together for almost a year? Wasn’t that the reason why a war nearly broke between our kind when the dragons found out? Looking back, you really had no fear, brother.”
Let’s just say that the younger me used to be incredibly curious. It was the time when father was still alive and there were many things I tried, many activities I engaged with.
Vicious had already questioned me about the dragons a week ago. There were no books about them in the library. The dragons burned every one of them which they found when they descended decades ago and threatened to burn the people who were behind them if they were to distribute copies again. They were too proud to let the ‘lesser creatures’ like us read and know about them, that’s why Vicious looked a little suspicious.
It was Dale’s fault. When she asked him first, he pointed at me, insinuating that I was the only werewolf who knew about dragons the most, nearly slipping out that a dragon shifter was once my bed partner. His big mouth was the same reason why I forbid him from being in the same area as her for the time being. I did not trust his mouth around her.
Vicious already had issues with other women, all thanks to her trash of an ex. Her eyes also changed their colors each time Katrice’s name would pop up in the castle servants’ mouths, something I had noticed during the preparation for her party. All shifters were naturally possessive of their mates, females included. This was a side of her that seemed to surprise and embarrass her at the same time.
Vicious had no idea I was far worse. I was not only possessive. I thought my obsession would subside a little when we started sleeping together. However, it only grew stronger the more I got to know her.

Speaking of her ex. Richards was surprisingly behaving these days. After his company visits, he would go straight home. The string of affairs he was involved with had stopped at once. I was sure he had been hearing about the side effects of Project X to the participants; they were falling one by one. In fact, four of them resorted to decapitating each other just yesterday when their hallucinations became more intense, shocking the human population yet again for the gore and carnage that even their legendary criminal investigators could not stomach.
“So, Lilac-”
“Is a thing of the past, your royal highness, and I would appreciate it if she would not be mentioned again, especially in front of Elianna.”
Terrence raised a brow. “This is unexpected. It’s the first time that you cared about what a woman would think about you. Anyway, now that you’ve confirmed you weren’t in contact with any of the dragons, I guess I’ll have to write the mages a letter.” He sighed. “I just wished they were still communicating with the dragons. They didn’t show up for more than four decades. For one of them to appear out of the blue is not a good sign. We still have several enemies to deal with. Humans and beta rogues combined. We can’t add dragons to the growing list.”
I only nodded; my focus returned to the male guests who could not rip their gazes away from Vicious, guests who wanted to be close to her but flinched the second they inhaled the pheromones I wrapped her with. A reminder of my presence and a warning that made them retreat. They were smart enough to know that inching closer to her was not only a clear disrespect to her boundaries but also a disrespect to me.
Even the female guests step back. They could only look at what was mine but never touch her the way I could.
The prince zipped his mouth, a very rare occurrence. When I glanced to see why, I caught him staring at Vicious. I blocked his sight with my body, my wolf flashing his fangs, especially when we remembered how he deliberately held Vicious during his surprise visit while I was away. Since meeting her, he had been blatantly expressing his desire for her.
Alpha shifters lived by a code, yes, but this guy was a mixed breed who had no morals and no problem messing with other people’s women.
“This is going to be my final warning, your royal highness. Every time you flirt with my mate, even look her way or talk to her, the chances of you living longer drops significantly.”
“You would fight your crown prince over a woman?”
“Over my princess,” I corrected. “You have no idea about the many things I capi do for my mate, your royal highness. For her, I would fight even God himself.”
