Chapter 66
(Creed)
For a man whose life revolved around revenge and darkness, it was true that my first glimpse of colors was the day Elianna started living with me. Darkness had consumed my soul so thoroughly that when I saw a different color for the first time in decades, I was not quite sure what to do with it.
Elianna was the only one shining in my gray world. That’s why seeing another woman apart from her was out of the question for me. She was the only thing clear to me. Everyone and everything else were hazy. And I liked it that way. I liked that I could focus only on the very thing that mattered.
Her.
The revenge was over for the most part. The only person that had not gone down was Landon Richards and another accomplice of his, but this one was more personal because it was no longer about the past, no longer about our ancestors and families. This time, it was about Elianna.
‘Tell me more,’ I recalled Alistair demanding the other day after giving me a private video call when the king and the prince were no longer around. ‘How did you know about the new blood?’ When I frowned, he explained, “That is what the dragons call them. The possibility of Lauren and Elianna becoming two of them? That itself is laughable, to be honest. Only one new blood is born every hundred years, Black. Ours died twenty-six years ago. That was how I knew you were lying. But I wanted to give you the benefit of the doubt so I could answer for you when the royals come barging in. I will be the first person they will question before they determine whether it is worth it coming down or not.’
I told him about what the nurse I hired to take care of Lauren found out. Aside from being malnourished, her former nurse. Sandy, was seen taking Lauren’s blood. Said nurse disappeared the next day after being caught by one of my staff. Landon personally hired Sandy for Elianna’s mother. She was found dead the week after that.
After getting a sample of Lauren’s blood, we had it tested. Like we predicted, she was not a human. However, she was neither a mage nor a werewolf. At that time, I did not consider the possibility of Lauren becoming a tamer. Lilac or was it Lindy? I no longer remember, I just knew she was a Hendrix and Alistair’s sister. Her brother made himself quite unforgettable because of the duel we had.
Lindy was the one who mentioned tamers. They were always female and were always from the dragon clan. They cannot shift; they cannot be dragons themselves. But they were coveted by all creatures in the world because of their rare beauty and their gift to tame anyone and anything, be it nature or different creatures, hence the name. Their blood can create an indestructible line of dragons, mages, and werewolves. Their blood can also heal the deepest wounds, and in their full potential, can secure their borders and ensure that no one would mess with their clan.
In their best selves, the tamers can pretty much do anything. Even if they cannot shift, they can make dragons do their bidding. In the past, I heard the dragons found them to be a threat that’s why they were caged although over the past two centuries, their beliefs had changed.
Possessing tamers had become a symbol of power for them. That’s why they were cherished. Creatures fought tooth and nail to get their attention, to be blessed by their blood. Even dragons themselves fought for them, believing that the man who would get them would have power like no other. However, there were also people who were bothered by the bloodbath caused by the dragons themselves.
To guarantee that tamers would not betray the dragons, they restricted their powers through holding their weakness’ captive; their mates. Tamers harness their energy from their mates and only when they were satisfied and happy could they weave what the humans called ‘miracles’
‘Richards stole Lauren’s blood and had been fusing it in his system for a while now,’ I added. ‘I can send you the video if you want. I found his files when I raided his mansion in the human realm the other day. Before your dragon soldiers burned the books published in the mages’ land, I read that a two-colored dragon was considered corrupted and impure. Richards is that kind of dragon. The blood in his system was not given by a tamer, it was forced
‘You saw Lauren yourself, Alistair commented after some time. ‘What did she look like?’
