Chapter 69
Chapter 69
(Creed)
“So, did you recognize her?” I asked Jacques Rosewood, the reigning king of the dragons, as he watched Elianna from my office early in the morning with his younger brother lord Anson and their General, Alistair, making my office appear smaller in their enormous frames. All of the male dragons were about seven feet tall.
The three of them arrived scowling and the only time that scowl had left their faces was the moment they had seen Elianna walking at the shore with my entire pack and a couple of mages guarding from their hidden spots. I did not allow any of the dragons closer than that unless I was sure she was one of them. Even then, I didn’t think I could trust them near her.
They took their time. It was exactly seven days since I had a talk with Alistair. The latter informed me that the royals initially did not give a fuck. They had one look at Lauren Dawson’s photos and did not look back again. But out of that favor from my duel with Alistair, he gave me a chance. Photos can be edited; he demanded that the images be hand painted instead.
Our realm had incredibly skilled painters. That was one of the many things we could boast about. Mages visited thrice a year to procure art from us. However, none of the renowned painters I hired were able to paint Lauren Dawson the way the King and I saw her. Their paintings turned out to be very different as if they were painting another person.
We tried it with Elianna and the result was the same. Every painter saw the mother and daughter differently. Eight painters and all of them painted eight distinct people with different hair styles and eye colors. The only painter who got Elianna’s image right was Emma who painted her cousin’s portrait in the castle. Nevertheless, I sent all the paintings to Alistair’s hideout yesterday. Dale said they were delivered almost midnight and yet, the dragons were already here early in the morning today. To think the sun had not even risen yet.
“It is a cloaking magic, wolf,” the King stated, not even bothering to sit as if he would not tolerate sitting on anything that was not his throne. “They may have painted her differently, but the limbal rings in her eyes remained the same in all of the paintings. Gold. She had learned to use her powers wonderfully. No wonder we could not find her. Her name is not Lauren. it is Eloise.”
Despite the arrogance in his tone, there was a certain longing that passed by his eyes for a split second. Like I thought, they did not need DNA tests to know. They could verify their bloodline with their unique auras and other things that only dragons understood.
“So, is Eloise one of yours? And Elianna?”
“Yes. It is as you guessed. Eloise is a tamer.” Darkness clouded his expression. “And Elianna is the child we wanted her to abort.”
My jaw ticked. That was all I needed to hear to walk to the door and open it wide. It was a mistake contacting them. Perhaps there was another way I could find to unbind Eli with Richards. There had to be another way. I would not let our child be born while she was still bonded with that scumbag.
“Kindly see yourselves out then.”
Alistair’s scowl was back. He looked at me as if he wanted to murder me for casually talking to his king. They were inside the werewolf territory. There was no other king here apart from my godfather. I was not their follower. I would not bend my knee, bow, or change for any of them. If I did that, I would only give them more reasons to belittle the werewolves.
“Anson and I had no choice at that time,” Jacques continued as if his sense of hearing had declined somewhere during our conversation and did not hear me telling them to leave. “The former King is into Eloise. He would do anything, including bend the law, to have her.”
“Who is Eloise to you?”
“My sister.”
Chapter 69
“What the fuck?”
“Watch your language, Black,” Alistair snapped.
This was me being mild. If Elianna was here, they would have heard worse. It was her mother we were talking about in the first place and not just anyone.
“Are you saying your father is interested in his own daughter?”
“Hugo was our stepfather,” Anson explained. Unlike his brother, he was on the couch and was staring at Eli’s doodles in her notepad that she had forgotten in my office the other day. Written there were also her computation about the number of her golds and their dollar equivalent. Amusement crossed his eyes for a second upon realizing that Eli did not inherit Eloise’s artistry. She could only draw stick figures, but if he looked further in her notes, he would have realized that Eli made up for being excellent at numbers and negotiations.
“Anyway, our biological father died after Eloise, our youngest, was born. We only learned that he died because of Hugo sixteen years ago. It was a planned assassination. We came from a simple dragon clan. Hugo was the real royalty. He had his sights dead set on Eloise from the beginning. Tamers were easy to recognize with their golden auras. He pretended to court my mother and acted as our father while waiting for our sister to grow up to claim her.”
Their family story was making me sick. I was relieved that Eli was not here to hear all this.
“It was Anson who noticed it first, who saw Hugo visiting our sleeping sister’s chambers during ungodly hours. As the years passed by, his interest in her was becoming more prominent and no longer attempted to hide it from us. However, none of us could do anything about it. The older a dragon is, the more powerful he is. And Hugo was the oldest dragon alive at that time, making him the most powerful as well. He threatened to murder us if words about his dark obsession with his stepdaughter spread,” the King added.
“He had waited for Eloise for a long time. That’s why imagine his fury when he found out that she had wandered into the human realm while he was away for months to transact with the kings and queens from other realms. Eloise had fallen in love with a werewolf and had given herself to him. She was already pregnant when Hugo found her and brought her back. We could not help her back then.”
“And so, you told her to abort the baby,” I answered.
For the first time, the dragons looked ashamed.
“I regretted it. It has haunted me until now. The night Hugo killed your wolf prince out of jealousy; our mother helped Eloise escape and made it appear a suicide twenty-six years ago. Until she died recently, her lips remained tightly sealed. We did not know our sister was still alive and that she continued her pregnancy.”
I only wanted to know if Eli and Eloise were tamers. I didn’t know that by doing so, I would unlock other mysteries. All this time, the werewolves thought that the humans killed Prince Rio.
“Our prince died and you let the humans bear the brunt of it.”
“Like I said, our mouths were sealed back then, wolf.”
“Not anymore, dragon,” I shot back. “You are the King now. You have to make up for it. But before that, where is Hugo right now?”
I needed to know about him first since he was going to be another threat to my mate.
“Gone. He died last year. It took us nearly a century to gather enough strength and power to overthrow him. If Eloise comes back, tell her she can come home. Hugo is dead. When you said she saw something at your party, it was one of our elite soldiers. She must have thought that the dragon was one of Hugo’s underlings. As for Elianna, of course, we are going to help her. We will restrict her other mate at all costs and will personally pay your king a visit after the problem with the hatchling is over.”

Chapter 69
“Thank you.”
“You must be warned though. As Elianna’s relatives, we could only restrict the outside forces around her. We could not restrict Elianna herself. Once her power as a tamer awakened, Richards is not the only thing you have to worry about. I’ll be Elianna.”
As if I was not worried enough.
Only Jacques and Anson departed after our meeting, saying that the formal introduction would be after Richards was dealt with. They left their General in my lair to guard their long-lost princess. The two men had become busy the entire century planning to dethrone and behead their stepfather that they did not have time for their personal affairs. Elianna was their only niece and being a tamer made her a candidate to the throne.
Once her dragon ranking became official, with the dragon’s superior bloodline, she would surpass the Alpha King and the Queen in the mages’ realm. She no longer had to worry about food, money, and protection. She would be protected whether she liked it or not. That was how important she was now… which left me wondering.
Once Eli realized who she was, once she saw the big, shiny world waiting for her, once she met people that could fly her anywhere she wanted to go, would she still need me in her life?
Would she still choose to be mine?
