Chapter 82

(Anson)

“No one has been crazy enough to interfere with fate before. By getting in between the two of them, your sister is disrespecting our Moon Goddess.”

Jacques and I tuned Aramides out. It was the only thing he could do anyway: complain. He had made his choice. My brother and I watched as our youngest sibling walked into the treatment room while Lizbeth ran into the next room with the vial in her hand.

The tension within the two rooms had vanished at once. Minutes later, Elianna and Black’s heartbeats had gone back to normal. Eloise stepped out after half an hour, looking like she had gone through hell and back. Her bleeding hands were shivering. I fought the sense of urgency in my chest. She would not want me and Jacques rushing to her even if that was all we wanted to do for our baby sister who had to endure countless hardships by herself.

We had hurt her. It would not be easy to regain her trust in us.

“I am going to take my daughter away once she wakes up,” she vowed.

When she collapsed, Aramides ran to her, making our brows raise. Jacques was quicker. He caught our sister and carried her as she passed out in his arms.

“I think we are going to have two problems here,” Aramides’ heir observed.

“Are you referring to yourself as the second problem with Black clearly being the first?” I asked.

Terrence laughed. “No. I only saw Eli as a sister, nothing more. I was just pissing Creed this whole time because he’s been blocking me from getting what I truly want.”

I could guess what it was, but I chose not to comment on that.

“The second problem is going to be him,” he pointed out his father who was still following Jacques and Eloise with his eyes. “I’d never seen the Alpha King become a literal fool in front of a woman before. He was not even that embarrassing when he was with my mother.”

I smirked. “I don’t worry at all. Do you honestly think he could win my sister? Alpha King or not, for Eloise, all the men in the world are ordinary. They are all the same for her.”

Terrence shrugged. “Let’s not forget she has fallen for Prince Riodes, His Majesty’s brother.”

“She knows better now. She is not going to do it again,” I answered with confidence. “With proper nutrition and rest, Eloise can create a barrier between realms. She can also take down your father, And the good part? She would not have to lift a finger to do it. All she had to do was command your king.”

“Why did I think he would gladly obey?” Terrence responded, shaking his head. “Anyway, aren’t you worried about what’s going to happen to Creed and Eli?”

“Why would I? All of you keep saying they are fated mates. It’s time we put their so-called bond to a test. This is going to be interesting. Let’s find out who is stronger. My sister or destiny?”

The day after that, when the two patients had woken up, we all witnessed how they stepped out of their rooms, still weak but recovering, and simply walked past each other.

Like two strangers.

“What the heck?” Lizbeth gasped. “What is happening?”

“I guessed you were not informed.” I replied calmly. Jacques had brought our sister into our realm yesterday and only returned this morning. I stayed in the werewolves’ lair to watch over my niece. She and Black were brought to the Alpha King’s castle after the incident in the mountains. “Both of them had woken up for a bit some time last night. The doctors had already checked on them. It looks like Eloise is not going to have a difficult time separating the two of them after all. Elianna’s last memory is attending some sort of gala in the human realm while the only thing that Black could remember was his plans about invading their realm with some project Y or something.”

Then again, Black fell on the cliff. The damage in his head was not surprising. Now that I think about it, I should not have gotten rid of the witch easily. A quick death was too merciful. And after witnessing the extent of the damage she had brought to Black, she certainly did not deserve mercy.

“It’s X. Project X,” Aramides corrected, narrowing his eyes at me, before following Black who did not waste time discussing said project while still wearing a hospital gown. Dale was glued to his side, fussing over his alpha’s injuries.

“Why am I here? And why are there people I haven’t seen before lurking around in the castle?” I overheard him asking before he passed by me as well. “Get everything ready, Dale. There is going to be a gala tonight where most members of the twelve families are expected to show up.”

Elianna was uncertain as she looked around but froze upon seeing Eloise pushing a wheelchair. She guided her daughter down the wheelchair. The latter was still weak. Fortunately, Eloise made it on time and was able to save both Elianna and the baby. My niece instantly charged my sister with questions which the latter answered with composure as if she had already rehearsed her lines. She pushed the wheelchair in the opposite direction.

“Aren’t you coming with us?” Eloise asked me and Jacques.

He and I tossed a swift glance at each other.

“We will be right behind you,” we answered.

And here we assumed we had seen and heard all the dramas in the world. Someone forgetting someone was not new anymore. Humans’ memories were never good anyway. They fade in time. But two supernatural beings who were in a deep relationship with no memories of each other? Now that was something new.

(Eli)

“What is that?”

Landon didn’t look up. I was not sure if he heard me. He was too busy drawing something on his sketch pad. I gave it to him when I visited him last week because there was no more space in the previously white walls in his room.

He drew me in every corner as if he didn’t want to forget me.

After finishing his drawing, Landon turned to the doll on his bed and gave it his signature smile that made my eyes water. “Look, honey. I drew your dream house. One day, we are going to live here. You, me, and our baby. I’m going to take care of both of you really well. You’ll be proud of me.” He glanced at his wristwatch which had stopped working for a while now. He abruptly stood up. “It’s late, honey. You should go to bed. I’ll draw more for you tomorrow.”

I covered my mouth when I saw Landon gently lay on the bed. He planted a kiss on the doll’s head, hummed for her, while softly patting her shoulder. A satisfied smile curved his lips after some time. “Good night, honey.” He kissed the doll’s belly. “Good night, baby.”

And then he fell asleep while wearing that smile that charmed me the first time we met.

When I heard that we were divorced and that he was involved in a car accident that made him like this, I couldn’t believe it at first until mom brought me to this ward. I didn’t think Landon would ever set me free. But I saw the documents last week.

I never thought this was how Landon and I would part ways. There was just a thin wall dividing the two of us, but we were worlds apart. He was trapped in his own little happy world while I was back to the real world after getting myself injured.

“If he could love me like that, why didn’t he show it to me sooner?” I asked mom. “If he could keep me like that, I could have given him a chance, for our baby at least.”

“That’s the problem, sweetheart. He didn’t know how to keep you in real life. That’s why he resorted to keeping you in a place where he could have you forever.”

“Where?”

There was a cynical smile on her lips when she answered. “In his imagination.”
