Chapter 84
Chapter 84
(Jacques)
I felt her before I saw her. Eloise opened the door and went barreling past the council and headed straight to the throne. stopping the meeting at once. Her rage was palpable. Our dragons could feel it. Just as she could bring peace to creatures like us, she could also take it away and replace it with agitation.
The men knew better than to stay. I nodded, giving them permission to leave, and they were out in an instant. Their dragons were restless, they needed to shift to ease the growing tension in their bodies otherwise, they would go berserk. This was my sister in her weakest form. In another time, the shift would have been instantaneous and the younger dragons, especially those with lower ranks, would have gone rabid by now.
“You betrayed me.”
Eloise’s voice crumbled as she looked at me and Anson like we were the ultimate villains in her life.
“I never learned. I was wrong to come to you and Anson again. I was wrong to believe that I could trust you again. You failed me before and you are doing it again.”
She aimed to hurt and she succeeded. Screams were not necessary this time. She uttered those words softly, but every word was a punch to the gut. I rose, attempting to placate her. She shook her head and took a step back.
“You can trust me and Anson, Eloise. Believe it or not, we are doing our best to make it up to you and save our family.”
“How? I heard you are bringing the wolves to the island!”
After what I heard from Elianna, I could not sit back and wait for the whole thing to play out anymore. No one, including our own kin, could enter the island without being invited. Eloise did not want to reside in the castle; it brought too many painful memories to her. She did not want to live anywhere in our realm. In fact, today was her first time stepping into this castle again.
After all the troubles she experienced as a tamer here, it was no surprise anymore. My sister did not trust the dragons yet and was determined to live in God knows where. Anson gave Isla El Vera, the island, to her as a peace offering.
Only selected people knew about the island. Aside from that, Eloise put a protection barricade around it, making it invisible in the naked eye. No supernatural beings could find Isla El Vera anywhere in the map, mages included. It was supposed to be a safe place for the two most important women in our lives.
However, clearly, someone had trespassed in it, someone with powers that could rival my sister’s and ours. This was no ordinary wolf. There was mana involved and it was powerful. My brother and I believed that the wolf that hunted Eloise was back and seeing as her powers were no longer the same as before, his interest had shifted to her daughter. There could be several of her hunters out there.
“They are back,” I replied instead.
“Who?”
“Your hunters. Just yesterday, Elianna told us about this male wolf that invaded Isla El Vera. He found your daughter, Eloise. He has been watching her for God knows how long now.”
Her face paled. “No… I-if you are telling the truth, how come I haven’t heard about it? How come I was the last to know? I was with Eli this afternoon and she didn’t tell me anything.”
“You didn’t know because you refused to talk about the wolves,” Anson answered. “Knowing my niece, I’m sure she tried telling you. But I’m also sure that before Eli could open up about it, you are already dismissing the subject and shutting her
down.”

Eloise’s knees wobbled. She grabbed the seat close to her and plopped down.
Guilt crossed her eyes, but only for a split second. “If you knew, then why are you letting more wolves into the island? You are supposed to protect us!”
“I am protecting you and my niece, Eloise-”
“By sending us monsters?”
“By providing you with protectors,” I corrected her. “I would rather trust the man who risked his life for Elianna than any man out there. I saw how she flinched with the dragons around. With Creed Black, I know she would be safe. He is their realm’s most capable soldier. His strength should not be underestimated. He even fought Alistair in his human form. He could also detect mana and given their history, she would no doubt be comfortable around him.”
Creed may have a twisted mind, but his heart was faithful. We had all proven that plenty of times before. Together, he and Elianna could move mountains. Together, they could solve this hunter problem. Together, their powers were limitless.

And then there was the Alpha King, no, I should get used to calling him Aramides now. A lot happened during the past two months. He relinquished his throne. His son, Terrence Beckett, now reigned over their entire realm.
And when I told the Becketts about assigning their alpha general to the island to protect my niece and that I was looking for one more person to guard my sister, Aramides offered himself to become Eloise’s soldier. That lovesick fool was supposed to go on a vacation, yet he postponed it and jumped at the opportunity to serve my sister right away. Eloise would eat him alive. He knew that and still volunteered. Whatever happened next, whether he survived her or not, was up to him.
Centuries of existence made me witness a bunch of things. And what I saw in Creed and Aramides’ eyes made me put my guard down when it came to them. Not to mention, I trusted my instinct. I knew the two men could be trusted.
Anson and Alistair had personally scouted their realm for the past months. During their own research, there were a few people we found suspicious although we would need further investigation before we act on it.
“I can protect my daughter on my own,” Eloise insisted. “I will talk to her. With me, she’ll be safe. I can keep her alive-”
“Alive?” Anson asked, no longer bothering to hide the sarcasm in his tone. “Does she look alive to you? Tell me, Eloise. When was the last time you saw her?”
“Just today. Like I said, we had lunch together-“
“That is not what Anson meant. When was the last time you truly saw her?” I responded, motioning my hand, revealing Elianna’s image through the glass walls. She was standing at the balcony, gazing at the sky, alive yes, but looking very much lifeless.
When I first saw my niece, despite the difficulties she was facing regarding her moronic ex-husband, there was spark in her eyes. There was fire in those dark-brown orbs, reminding me of youth and sunshine. The absence of those in her eyes had made quite an impact on me and my brother. These days, Elianna looked like she had lost the fight in her.
“Don’t you realize it yet, Eloise? You are robbing her of her happiness. Is this how you protect the person you claim to love? I am sorry to say this, dear sister, but your love and protectiveness is suffocating.”
The silence that engulfed the room was far from peaceful. There was no need to baby her. Eloise was a mother now. I did not see the need to be careful with my words when she had certainly heard far worse. Anson looked away upon seeing tears trickling down her cheeks.
“I’m sorry you had to learn about the werewolves from other people although I planned to personally discuss it with you after my meeting today. How did you find out anyway?”
“Aramides sent me flowers with a note,” she snarled despite her tears.
That dumbass.

I don’t want Elianña to end up with another werewolf,” she added in a strained tone. “Her father was the only one I trusted among the wolves.”
“Tell that to your daughter. Why do you think your barrier broke?”
Her eyes widened. “It wasn’t you and Anson? You didn’t break it?”
“How could we break a tamer’s barrier?” Anson sighed. “Besides, even if we could, we would not disrespect you like that, Eloise. If not for the broken barrier, Jack and I would not have come up with this plan. Initially, we thought it was because you were getting weaker. But then, we saw this.” He gestured to the mirrors, this time, revealing another image, the one we saw at dawn yesterday.
It was her own daughter, unknowingly breaking boundaries, sleepwalking, and passing through the barrier. The next image was the one we found upon gathering all the data from different realms at the exact timeline. From Isla El Vera, she appeared in the borders between humans and werewolves.
The same thing happened around one in the morning today. Although this time, Elianna appeared in front of Creed’s beach property and then disappeared again, a proof that she did not have full control over her powers yet. Had she not vanished right away, she would have met Creed who happened to be awake and stepped out of his house at the exact same time.
It would not take much time before their paths finally crossed whether Eloise liked it or not.
It was no longer just a work of fate anymore, but a work of two bonded souls, desiring the same thing.
The air inside grew heavier as Eloise paced the room. What we all saw was Elianna breaking her mother’s barrier. This must have been happening for some time now, judging by how that hunter of hers managed to sneak inside Isla El Vera after the barrier was damaged.
Elianna was reaching out to her mate unconsciously and in her own way and Creed seemed to be doing the same, judging by the restlessness I’d seen in him recently. He had been scouring all the realms like a rabid wolf as if he was looking for something.
“Not all werewolves are demons, Eloise,” I said calmly. “You should not even think that way since you fell for one before and since your daughter is a half-breed. Some are genuine like your mate, like Creed. Now, if you still don’t want them to be together, then don’t tell me about it. Tell that to fate.”
