Maxine/Fixer POV
My good mood soured. How dare that low-life, cheating, good-for-nothing woman still be infecting my happiness?
Zero shared four photos he had taken, the first of Zoey arriving in her new car, seemingly waiting for someone, then two bikes arrive, and Zoey throws herself at one of them, next was them going at it against the car, not caring who could see, then the other guy has a turn, before they ride off, didn’t even look like that they did much talking, more a booty call. Still, who knows? That was all I saw before I lost it. Zero could have shown a lot more, but I was gone, too many memories of seeing exactly that, with my exs. Zoey had always been an exhibitionist. Loves others seeing her having a good time. Although out here, unless she knew someone was watching, it wasn’t for my benefit for a change. Maybe she loves d**k too much.
They asked who she was, and nearly threw up. As I answered their questions, I was worked up over having seen her and was obviously not pregnant, and needed an out, but also needed to hear the rest. I sat back down being a meeting of importance, I couldn’t sit on Tanks lap, he was of authority, and if I sat on his lap, that would only give members more reason to continue this meeting without me in there, at the moment they still see me as one of the guys, and not some bimbo on her man’s knee, I need it to stay that way, and stay strong.
The reports started, and I became numb as they discussed people I thought I knew.
“Barry and Sheila were never registered as married; no legal record had been made of such an event, nor was Zoey, Zoey was never pregnant; she had so many abortions that she would have difficulty falling pregnant, or if she did go all the way to term. According to DNA testing, Zoey isn’t the child of either Barry or Sheila. Our investigators are going back, slowly, year by year, trying to miss nothing, no lead too small, and piecing together how they met and where Zoey came from. Sheila could never have children; she has endometriosis. Barry has two children, both living in the Jones gang clubhouse, both patch members.” The report just kept giving up surprise, after surprise. My life was never theirs to play with. How they tricked my grandparents was terrible; they ruined my childhood, for what reason? The money? Did they know how much my real family was worth, or only knew about the life insurance policy on my mother, and what the accident would pay out, be enough for that greed to consume them, but why hurt me like that over the years, for Grandma’s house? I am so glad they never knew the true value of her wealth. If I had died in that accident, would Grandma have left Sheila anything? Of gone somewhere else. Must find out from Tandy the ‘what ifs’ on the wills.
“Fixer, was there anything else you needed to bring to the table? If not, then please leave as
we discuss this further. Your involvement from here will not be needed.” Bruiser said, I stiffened at the order to leave, but I didn’t resist. I got up gracefully, turned to Prez.
“Thank you for allowing me to join, for the basic information. I will seek out Uncle Simon and give him this information, and have his investigators do some digging of their own. Be prepared for him to corner you for more sharing of information.” He got the message loud and clear. I didn’t like being dismissed, and Bruiser just lost my trust. Prez nodded, and I left the room.
Headed straight for my bike and went home, furious at the way I was told to leave that meeting. I have no intention of joining any in the future. Tank can tell me if he wants, but I will do my own investigations, with Uncle Simon and Tandy. I am not interested in the boys’ club talks, and they can’t order me into them, as they were supposed to be boys-only, unless I have a report for them, which I don’t, not anymore.
Uncle Simon was in the kitchen having coffee with Tandy. He was surprised to find me home so early.
“Fixer, the trucks are busy unloading. We are taking a break. Come join us.” Tandy said, noticing my edginess.
