Tank POV
Zero’s reaction to seeing the pictures was better than mine, but then he hadn’t seen all the rest, just the worst of mum and dad on the road. I have yet to go over the rest, because it was too much to take in on one viewing, too emotional. Not looking forward to when I show him the rest, and I hope that when Fixer goes with Uncle Simon to the place Barry and his family have been detained, I can go too, and I believe Zero would most likely want to go too. A punch or two in the face might give us some satisfaction.
Melony was a barrel of fun. I can see the three of them together, which will keep us on our toes, and why Fixer likes her. Melony was something between the two of them, not as out there as Jenny, but not as quiet as Fixer. Watching Fixer around her, I would say Fixer can be a lot more out there than what I have seen so far, a side I am looking forward to. I have seen snippets, small glimpses of a girl hiding behind hurt. I am looking forward to watching Fixer bloom. She will be amazing when she comes out of hiding.
While they were upstairs, Prez spoke calmly.
“Spoke to Bruiser, he was not happy with you throwing in your cut, but understands your reasoning behind it, but won’t back down, and won’t let the blame fall on Cricket’s shoulders, where I believe it stems from. I told him to think about what he was doing, and I called a members’ meeting for tomorrow morning. After I take you there to collect your truck and baby. I’d like you to be at that meeting.” It was almost like he was pleading with me to go, he might have wanted to order me to, but we been friends far too long for him to do that to me. Only when in front of others and he has to put on a show of being the boss does he do that. We have an understanding, and it works for us.
“Okay, I will stay briefly, but I won’t put up with hearing them putting Fixer down; she has done so much for the club in a small amount of time,” I replied, while Fixer sat quietly on my lap, listening to us talk.
“The club will be in for a shock if I walk. If Bruiser doesn’t back down, and the members don’t reinstate Fixer, I will throw in my cut, too. Then they will be in for a shock.” Prez was angry, and it appeared that Sticks was supporting him.
“Why will they be in for a shock?” Blaze asked, looking a little lost.
“Fixer, Tank, and Prez, great-grandfathers, built this town. Fixer’s family owned thousands of acres and lived here for years before others came and wanted to make a town here. They built the town, had men cut logs, and in three years had enough buildings to call it a small town. Others came to settle, and slowly the town grew. They formed the bike club; the Prez and Tanks family brought in as a shareholder of the land with Fixer’s family, and together the three built the clubhouse, which slowly grew. The Fixer family sold off more and more as the town grew, but they still own a large share and keep the town running. The club has never been owned by the club. They do not have any business that generates high income, as it’s Prez and Tank who provide the club with funds when it runs short. The club supports the town when it needs it, helps with fires, floods, and community work, but money-wise, it has members’ dues, the bar, and that’s about it; they actually own nothing. The community thinks they own a lot of the town and get their income from rents on shops and other properties, but that’s not true. It belongs to Tanks, Zero, and Prez. While the rest, and mostly the bulk of the town, was owned solely by Fixer, it hasn’t been sold off to individuals occasionally. But most parts have long-term agreements,” Tandy informs the room. Only Fixer knew I was part of a small group that had purchased a share with her family generations ago and helped build the town. That we had a lot of money of our own. Zero and I have never needed to find real work, hence the bar at the club, and the odd jobs I do. I have a degree in business, and that’s what Zero and I do in our time, going over our businesses, signing off payments, keeping things running, while Prez looked after the club, keeping it afloat, and acting as a diplomat between other clubs.
Fixer had brought to light problems in our town that I was too blind to see, or maybe not know enough to think to find a solution to fix them. We talked about it, and together we are going to see what we can do to improve our town.
“Wow, so if you throw in the cut, the club will fail,” Blaze asked, looking shocked by this new information.
“Yep, because the bank account for the club has about one hundred thousand in it, won’t last long if they are not frugal, and something tells me Cricket will spend it all,” I say, because that exactly how I feel about Cricket, she’s flighy and when the money gone, she will do a runner on Bruiser, breaking his heart. He’s in for a lot of hurt soon.
