Maxine/Fixer POV
In the lounge, we discussed progress around the property. It was going ahead of schedule, Uncle Simon had pulled in all the stops, and they had an extra worker, one of the transportables, which was already full of workers that would stay; the other was half full of security, watching the workers, and doing some installation of cameras as well. I was glad Uncle Simon and Tandy had control of this; there were too many things going on at once.
“Uncle Simon. Do you want to meet my Grams and Gramps? They want me to visit tomorrow, not able to wait for the following weekend.” I asked, keeping my ear out for Tank and Zero; it sounded like they had almost finished in the kitchen.
“Maybe next time. With all these workers around, best I stay and keep an eye on them. Do you want me to call in the helicopter to take you there?” Uncle Simon asked softly. He had his own helicopter. The hanger could house more than one at a time, in case we both needed to use one. I am still in awe of the huge change in my life. I still feel like me, but now I can help others while keeping low-key, as my Grandparents did. I would never have known they had a lot of money and property; they lived such a simple life, out of the world’s eyes.
“Okay, will ask Tank if he wants to come.” Prez and Sticks were sitting here; they had been talking about the baby and how tired Sticks was getting, and thanked me for pushing Sticks to take naps. I tried to keep my talk light, but everyone could feel the unspoken tension. I tried to stay pleasant, and I could see that Sticks had no clue, and Blaze was as uncomfortable as I was. Trying to make light conversation was not so easy. I was thankful for Tandy and his jokes, which kept things lighter.
I heard Tank and Zero go upstairs.
“I need to go to Zero’s room; I need his print in the system.” I stood and collected some of the files from the large box and my tablet.
They hadn’t closed the door, and I heard Zero ask about the house and Tank’s answer. I didn’t mind his brother knowing some of it; hopefully, it won’t change his opinion of me.
“Hey, do you like the room?” I asked, looking between Zero and Tank.
“You bet, I have never had a room so huge, and my own bathroom, I don’t have to fight the brothers over.” He joked and came to me, picking me up and twirling me around. I nearly dropped the files and tablet.
“Thanks, sis, this was the best news after returning here.” I blushed as he put me down.
“I need your hand on this.” Zero didn’t question, just placed his hand on my tablet.
“Thanks, now the right thumb here.” He placed his thumb.
“Now the left.”
“You now have access to the house; your thumbs can open the gates,” I said as I completed the access levels and saved them.
“Thanks, what’s in the files?” He asked, and I looked at Tank.
“He knows.” Tanks shrugged.
“Come to the table, and you can go through them, ask anything you like, and if I know, I will answer. I have more, but this I thought was enough to start with; it was the worst of them.” I placed the file on the table. Zero sat in front of the files, and Tank sat on the other side, slowly opening it.
Zero swore a few times, but didn’t stop till he reached the last picture.
“Have some questions.” For half an hour, he asked, and we answered, with more swearing and a few tears, but on the whole, he handled it quite well.
My tablet lit up, showing Melony at the gate. I pushed the access.
“Melony’s here, care to share?” I asked with a smile, hoping it was what I was thinking, because I hadn’t told her about this place yet, that we had moved, and with Jenny at work, I couldn’t ask her.
