Chapter 326

Skunk POV

My task today was to dig a trench for the pipework for the new ablution block being built outside, to reduce the number of people queuing for the few inside, and to try to stop those attempting to go upstairs to use those personal ones. The inside was good, but when we have an open day, we need more, and the girls, if given a reason, will try to sneak upstairs into this block. That will eliminate that reason, and they will have to think up something more imaginative.

I had almost reached the end of my day, my energy was almost zapped, and the alarm went off, and I dropped my tools and ran inside.

“Jip called, trouble at the pancake place, all available men, on your bikes,” Storm called out. I

walked quickly out the door and to my bike when Storm tapped me on my shoulder.

“It’s personal, don’t lose your sht.” I didn’t know what he meant. About personal. Was Wrench in

trouble?

We broke every road rule and made it in less than five minutes, parking on the road and blocking

traffic.

I walked in with Storm, and nearly lost it when I saw Pip being manhandled by a guy who looked like he needed a fat lip. What stopped me from going over to him and giving him one wasn’t Storm’s words, but Dan, as he raced out of the play area he had been hiding in, and called out to me. Everyone in the shop, including Storm, Jip Sprocket and Doom, looked at Dan and me in

shock.

The idiot called Pip a whore, and a few other choice words before throwing her against the table. Dan turned his head away.

“That badman, he hurts Mummy,” Dan whispered to me, making my blood boil. No man had the right to treat a woman so unkindly. I held onto Dan, and that little champ, nestled into my chest as though he belonged there.

I didn’t engage in the verbal fight that was going on; my eyes stayed on Pip, who was still sitting on the floor, tears running down her face, watching what was going on. Wrench was on the other side of the table, out of reach of Pip. The place was chaos; all we needed now was the cops to turn up. and this sht show would get ten times worse.

Just as I thought that, the sirens of the approaching police echoed in the room. No one moved, as if suddenly frozen in place, and then Richard and his goons tried to leave the place, not on our watch. We outnumbered them, and after a very short, one–sided scuffle, we held onto the men until the police arrived. The police entered the building, and our members, not restraining the men, moved aside to give them room. Sprocket and Storm were restraining a struggling Richard, while

other members held the rest, and would not let go till the police took over. Blocking the door to stop any attempt to run for it again, once the police entered the place.

“Richard, greetings, just the man I was looking for. You are under arrest.” The officer read him and his men their rights and escorted him out. The moment the man I now know as Richard had left the building, Dan wanted down, I lowered him, and he raced to his mother’s side, touching her face tenderly.

“Badman hurt again, you cry.” Dan wiped her tears and leaned in for a hug. I got all choked up, watching that. How could you not? You would have to be heartless not to be affected by the love

and concern of a three–year–old. They might not know much at that age, but this kid knows tears

and pain, more than a child should.

I moved to kneel next to her. Like Dan, I wiped the tears from her eyes and pushed the hair from her face. Her makeup was running, her nose and eyes were red, her hair was a mess, and she

looked like the most beautiful woman I had ever seen.

“Skunk, go in the car, I will ride your bike home,” Jip called out. I removed my keys from my jacket pocket and threw them at Jip, who caught them with ease. We piled out of the pancake place and into the vehicles and on bikes. I carefully placed Pip onto the front seat, quickly moved to the driver’s seat, and headed to the hospital.

The place wasn’t too crowded for a change, and the wait to see the doctor was thirty minutes. I kept Pip in my lap and held onto her; Pip quietly cried on my shoulder. I was unsure if it was from pain or from what happened today. I rubbed her back and kept still, thinking rocking could hurt her
