ARIELLA
When Asher walked out, I must have fallen asleep from the exhaustion, because when I felt his arms on my shoulders, telling me he was here to feed me, I thought he was joking about the feeding part.
But then, it turns out....He wasn’t. Because as soon as I sat up on the bed, he held the spoon in front of my face, waiting. And I had no choice but to let him feed me.
He watched me as I ate, still half-dazed, while he continued talking, his voice light and his expression warm, a small smile sitting on his lips as if he genuinely enjoyed feeding me in this way. He liked taking care of me. And for some reason… that did something to me too.
When I was done, he reached for a napkin, carefully wiping the corners of my mouth like it was the most natural thing in the world. Then he set everything aside and looked at me.
“There,” he said. “Done.”
I smiled faintly.
“You told me to feed you, and that’s exactly what you get. You ask me for something, and I make sure you have it.”
Something in my chest softened. I felt… taken care of. Loved. Fulfilled in a quiet way I hadn’t expected.
“Well,” I said after a moment, “what’s happened to Leon? Where is he? Has he had breakfast? Did he begin his classes?”
He sighed lightly, though there was amusement in his eyes.
“You think about Leon too much.”
I laughed. “Being his mother is a full-time job.”
“I know,” he said, smiling. “I’m just kidding. But don’t worry, we had breakfast, and Sia is with him in the study right now.”
He leaned back slightly.
“I went to check on them. They’re just talking. She told me, she wants to understand where he is in his schoolwork, his progress, before she begins anything.”
“Ah… okay.”
“So don’t worry,” he added. “You’re not missing out on anything.”
I couldn’t help but laugh at that.
“Okay.”
He stood up then, adjusting his sleeves slightly.
“I’m going downstairs. I brought you some fruits too, so whenever you’re feeling up to it…”
He glanced at me, softer now.
“I’ll just be downstairs. Feel free to come check on me anytime.”
“I will,” I said quietly.
He leaned down, pressing another kiss to my lips, gentler this time And then he left.
*
I took another nap before I woke up again later, at about eleven. For a moment, I just lay there, staring at the ceiling, letting my body catch up with me.
Then I got dressed and went downstairs. And of course, I immediately started heading towards Asher’s office hallway, because that’s where Leon’s study was.
As I got closer, I heard their voices. Leon’s And Sia’s. They were laughing at something. Which I guess it was good that Leon was having so much fun… But I thought she was here to teach. Still... I kept walking.
The door to Leon's study was open, and as I stepped closer, Sia immediately saw me. She smiled politely and I smiled back. And then her attention went right back to Leon.
Something in me paused at that But I smiled anyway.
“That’s good.”
Sia glanced at me then, just for a second.
“We’re just reviewing where he is,” she said. “I don’t want to rush him before I understand how he learns.”
“That makes sense,” I replied.
And it did, it really did. My eyes moved back to Leon. To the way he leaned toward her, To the way he listened and To the way he looked… comfortable.
“Mom, do you want to sit?” he asked, already pulling a chair slightly with his foot.
I hesitated just for a second Then I stepped forward and sat.
“Okay,” I said. “Show me what you’ve done so far.”
He brightened immediately, turning the book toward me, starting to explain, fast, messy, excited. Sia leaned back slightly, giving him the space and letting him take the lead.
I saw it then, clearer than before. Sia was great with Leon. And Leon looked so excited to learn… he had actually done something today.
Sia was just good And maybe that’s why there was this tiny little thing inside me that felt against her. But I realised at that moment.... Sia doesn’t mind me getting involved.
She just wants to do her job and so far she has shown great potential. She doesn’t see me as a problem.... I am the one with the problem.
But she is great And maybe… what I should be doing right now, what I should be doing is helping her get comfortable. Helping her so she can assist Leon, so she can help him learn.
I should start letting her in and let her do her job. I should stop this jealousy thing Asher mentioned. It was not going to be easy and it did not make it easier. But I would do anything for my son.
