Claimed By The Mafia Don (Ariella and Asher) novel Chapter 409

ASHER

I did not want to be here.

I would rather be at home with my wife and my son, but here I was..... It was necessary.

The last time I was here, I thought it would be the last time I came here alone. But then again, here I am, alone on this beautiful day to meet this one hell of a woman.

There were guards stationed outside her little porch gate. I had put her in the best place she could be, near her family members and friends, hoping it would melt her heart. However, she didn't seem to improve, and word was that she didn't leave the house. She didn't entertain friends or anyone else she wasn't close with anyone. She had chosen social withdrawal.

None of that mattered. I was here for two things. First, I wanted to know where she got the information that Ariella would be at the party and why she had decided to be there at that moment in time.

And second, I wanted to look her straight in the eye when I asked her who she thought she was. To dare raise her voice and hurt my wife. She should know better, I didn't care if Ariella was her daughter.

She was still my wife.

She represented me.

She was my children's mother.

She was the Don's wife of this famiglia.

And I didn't take insults lightly.

I opened the door like it was my house.... It was. And I walked inside. There was a maid inside, and when she saw me, she kind of scampered off from the look in my eyes.

I got into the sitting room and sat down, knowing Ariella's mother was going to appear not long after.... And she did just as I expected. The moment she appeared, it looked like she had still been in bed. She still had her bathrobe on. Her eyes were red and puffy, and she was just... You get the picture.

"What are you doing here?" she snapped at me, standing over me.

And this was exactly what I was talking about. This woman had either forgotten the world she was born in, forgotten who I was, or forgotten her place.

As much as I wanted to use brutal force, Ariella's face appeared in my head. I saw her telling me not to hurt her mother.

I mean, it was clear her mother was still grieving. You could tell from her distancing herself, staying in the house, and the way she looked. But that didn't give her the right to hurt my wife and humiliate her.

I smiled weakly as I looked at her, making sure we were sharing eye contact. I knew what she saw in my gaze: anger. The only thing I saw was a hint of crazy in her gaze.

But still, I wanted her to get the message without me having to open my mouth.

And she seemed to get it, as she straightened and took very long steps back away from me. Putting distance between the two of us.

"What are you doing here? You and that dead daughter of mine are not welcome in my home."

"It's funny you say that," I said calmly, "because you weren't invited to the party either. You still came there, caused a ruckus, and did the most despicable thing of all."

I leaned forward slightly.

"Your head should be rolling on that ground right now for spitting on my wife."

I saw her stiffen. Only for a second.

Though she quickly hid it and looked away from me.

"As I said, I don't want any trouble with the family. I just want you out of my house."

I didn't respond or make a move.

Then her eyes narrowed.
