Claimed By The Mafia Don (Ariella and Asher) novel Chapter 410

ASHER

I don't know what I said, but suddenly something inside her disappeared.

"This is all your fault. This is all your doing....." She cried out. "From the moment you came into my house, I knew Ariella had made a terrible mistake. You were not the man for her. You were going to cause the death of all of us."

"I know," I said with a small smile.

"I told her not to marry you," she whispered. "I tried to reason with her, but she never listened, especially when it came to you."

Her eyes filled again.

"And look what you did.... I lost my husband because of her.... Because of you."

I said nothing.

"While she was away with you....." she added. ".....because I know you had something to do with that fire.....you must have helped her while the two of you were playing romance."

Her voice cracked.

"I buried her." Then quieter— "I buried her unrecognisable body."

"My husband died thinking our daughter was dead."

Tears were pouring down her face now.

"I buried him alone thinking she was dead."

Her breathing shook.

"How was I supposed to know I buried the wrong person? Mourned for the daughter who lived? That it wasn't really her in that casket?"

My expression didn't change. I listened because grief had a smell to it. A weight, and I knew it.

She laughed bitterly, wiping at her face angrily.

"And then suddenly she comes back with you alive and doesn't even think to come and see me. She goes on playing house with you and forgets from whose womb she came from....."

Her voice broke.

"She hasn't even visited her father's grave."

She looked up at me.

"Do you know what that feels like?"

I stayed quiet, my face blank.

"I'm all alone now because of her..... and she gets what she's always wanted."

Her eyes narrowed towards me.

"You. She gets to be the Donna of the famiglia, just like she always wanted and fuck everyone else."

She laughs bitterly.

"Do you know what it feels like to find out your child is alive and she didn't care about her parents? Not you, not her father.....but you gave everything for this child and she didn't give a damn about any of you."

The anger was gone now. Now there was just pain. Raw pain. This was grief mixed with anger and abandonment and loss until none of it knew where to go anymore.

But still, I folded my arms.

"Then be angry," I said calmly.

Her eyes lifted slowly.

"Be heartbroken," I continued. "Cry. Scream."

My voice dropped.

"But you don't spit on my wife. You don't get to break her because you're broken."

"And just as a final thing..." I added quietly, "You don't get to make her cry."
