Chapter 56
Pop! pop!
Suddenly there was the sound of gunshots in the air and I just froze.
I don’t know what happened as I sat there on the bed, frozen, but then suddenly Asher was in my face, talking to me. He was already dressed, he had never taken anything off, so he was fully dressed. I was the one naked lying there on the bed as the sound of heavy gunshots kept being heard in the air.
He was touching my face, his face was on my face and he was telling me,
“Ariella, Ariella, look at me, look at me, Baby.” That’s when I turned to look at him.
He tells me, “Get dressed right now, hurry up.”
He throws the clothes at me, he’s on his phone, he’s making calls. I don’t know, I’m scared, I’m confused. I start putting the clothes on, my hands are shaking. I ask him,
“What’s going on?”
He’s not answering me and he’s not panicking like I am, but I can feel that something’s wrong. And then I hear a scream and I can’t help myself, I start screaming too.
He comes towards me and puts his hand on my mouth as he tells me,
“Shh, do not make a sound, don’t scream.” Tears are now falling from my eyes as I nod. I don’t know what the fuck is happening.
When he removes his hand from my mouth, I ask him, “What’s going on, what is happening?”
He says, “Everything’s all right, they’re just playing around, nothing to worry about. Don’t panic.”
That makes no fucking sense.
And then I hear gunshots again, sounds of footsteps, people are running, people are shouting.
Asher is now cursing as he says, “Nobody’s picking up.”
He takes his phone, and puts it in his back pocket, right before someone opens the door and runs inside.
Asher had already gotten his gun and had it pointed at them so fast that my eyes narrowed. They both put their hands up.
It’s a man and a woman as the guy says,
“Hey, chill, it’s just me.”
I think the two of them know each other, as Asher asks, “What’s going on?”
“We’re under attack,” the guy says.

“Who?” Asher says. “Who is it?”
“We don’t know,” the man says.
“Could it be Russians?” Asher asks.
The man, who’s a little bit older than Asher, shakes his head.
“I don’t think so. Your father and the Bratva were coming to a peace agreement,” he says doubtfully.
“How many are they?” Asher asks.
“We don’t know, but the house is surrounded and under fire.”
“Fuck,” Asher says as his eyes come towards me. And then he rubs his face as he looks at the ceiling and says, “You shouldn’t have been here.”
And I know he’s talking about me.
I shouldn’t have been here, but I’m too scared. And I know he’s right, so I can’t defend myself. I have nothing to say.
Asher says, “Let’s go downstairs and see what’s going on.”
But I’m still scared as I rush from the bed and hold his hand.
“No..” I tell him.
“You can’t go. What if you get shot?”
He smiles at me as he runs his hands on my face and says, “Nothing’s gonna happen to me.”
“How do you know? How do you know? Let’s just stay here until someone comes.”
Asher laughs and says, “I can’t wait for my men to die for me while I’m in here. I am going to be the Don one day. I need my men to respect me. You stay here. I’ll come back for you.”
“No,” I say, my hand getting tighter as I hold his. “Don’t leave me,” I say as tears start falling from my eyes.
“Look, baby, I know you’re not used to this. You shouldn’t have been here, and I can’t let you die on my watch. You won’t die until I marry you,” he says, with a tight smile. “But in order to ensure that happens, I need you to stay here.”
“No,” I say, shaking my head, “please.”
“You’re going to be the queen one day. You can’t look, weak,” he says with his face serious.
And then he takes a gun from his back and asks me, “Have you ever fired a gun?”
I shake my head. “No.”
He puts it in my hand. It’s too heavy. I nearly drop it. He catches it.

“Please, just take this, okay? I just need to know that if anything happens, that you’re going to be okay. Lock the door, and whoever comes inside, just shoot. Do not ask any questions.”
“I can’t,” I tell him, truthfully. “I don’t think I can shoot anyone.”
He sighs as he says, “You know what? Just stay here. Let me go and scout the situation.”
I want to hold on. But he moves and the guy leaves the door. But before he leaves, he says, “Lock it.”
They move. They leave. I can’t do anything. I just stand there.
The woman that was with the guy closes the door after they leave. She talks to me after an awkward pause and says, “Hi.”
And I say, “Hi.”
It’s awkward as hell. I can still hear gunshots. I’m going crazy.
She says, “My name’s Sarah. What’s yours?”
I realised she distracted me as I sat on the bed. And it takes excruciatingly a lot of time before someone opens the door. And when they find out that the door is locked, they start knocking.
My eyes go towards Sarah. There’s a question in the air: should we open it?
And then she shrugs and says, “If it was the bad guys, I don’t think they wouldn’t have knocked.”
As she goes and opens the door, the whole time, I sit there scared. But she opens the door and-Luca and Asher walk in and I immediately run towards Asher and hug him.
“You’re okay, you’re okay,” I say as I hug him, relieved.
