Claimed By The Mafia Don (Ariella and Asher) novel Chapter 67

Chapter 67

I nearly felt like dying with mortification.

On one side, there was the embarrassment-what we had just done, what Luca realized I had done, we had done. But on the other side, it was Asher’s life. The life I had put at risk. Just because I wanted to sleep with him. Because I wanted to get pregnant.

But if he dies… then it would all be for nothing.

I might not even get pregnant. Some people try to get pregnant for years and nothing happens. And I- what had I done? I had put his life at risk for a maybe.

Tears started flowing. I didn’t even try to stop them.

“I didn’t…” My voice cracked. “I am sorry.”

I turned to look at Asher’s arm-the one I was holding-because I couldn’t bear to look at Luca’s face

right now.

‘He had told me it was bad… He told me it only grazed his flesh. I didn’t know it was so bad.

“It’s okay,” Luca interrupted me gently. ” He probably didn’t want you to worry and made his condition seem better than it actually was.”.

He took a deep breath, then added, “Let’s not blame each other. Let’s just focus on a way to make sure that he gets the medical attention that he deserves. You need to work with me.”

“Yeah,” I whispered, nodding.

After a while, he left the room again.

When he came back, his face was tight, controlled.

“They’re sending a helicopter.”

“Okay, that’s good. It’s good, right?”

“Yeah, it’s good. They’re gonna be here in about two to five minutes. So we have to get ready.”

“Okay, okay.” My mind was racing. “I mean… I think we should get him dressed because he’s naked and-”

I couldn’t finish the sentence. I looked down and swallowed hard.

“Yeah, you’re right,” Luca said quickly.

He walked to the drawers and grabbed some clothes-just a pair of sweatpants. No T-shirt. He didn’t bother. With steady hands, he helped slide Asher into them.

Then he turned and looked at me.

“What?”

“Does anybody know that you’re here?” Luca asked.

I swallowed hard. “No. Why?”

“Because… as Asher’s friend, I think I kind of have to protect you right now. He wouldn’t want you to be found here. He wouldn’t want people to know what happened…”

“I know that,” I answered absentmindedly.

“They can’t find you here. If they find you, it’ll be a whole mess. And I’m sure Asher doesn’t want that.

You don’t want that either. Believe me.”

“So… what do you want me to do?” I asked, panicking. “I mean, there are still people out there trying to

shoot at us”

“When they get here, I need you to hide. Okay? Just hide, and I’ll come get you tomorrow.”

“What? No!” I gasped. “If my parents wake up and they don’t find me, it’ll be a whole thing. And you’re trying to save my dignity now but when my parents wake up and don’t find me, and then they hear about the shooting-”

“It’ll be worse,” I cut in. “Because it’ll be known that while my fiancé was getting shot at, I was who knows where. They’ll probably think I’m dead!”

“Okay, fine,” he said, rubbing his face. “Just… let me think of something.”

A few minutes later-maybe even seconds-we started hearing the whirlwind whup-whup-whup of a helicopter cutting through the sky.

Luca’s expression tightened..”Hide,” he instructed firmly.

Without thinking, I rushed under the bed and crawled deep into the shadows, my heart pounding.

I listened as he went to open the door. The sound of boots thudding in, voices cursing, and orders being shouted filled the room. They got Asher into an IV, loaded him onto a stretcher, and carried him out.

I wanted to be there. I wanted to hold his hand, to go with him. But I knew I couldn’t. I was crying the whole time, trying not to make a sound, trying to breathe silently so they wouldn’t realize someone else

was in the room.

Then I heard the helicopter roar again as it took off and flew away.

And just like that, I was alone.

Left in this cabin-God knows where-with people still out there probably trying to kill us. My parents would wake up soon and not find me.

And I had no idea what would happen next.

I started crawling out from underneath the bed, my muscles stiff and trembling, but then-suddenly- black boots appeared right in front of my face. I nearly screamed and instinctively pulled myself back in.

A voice above me stopped me.

“Come on, get out. Let me take you home.”

“Luca?” I asked, surprised as I slowly slid out from under the bed. “You’re still here? I thought you left

with Asher.”

“Yeah, that’s what I should have done. The guys gave me questioning looks when I told them I was staying behind to lock up. But I think it’s kind of safe. There’s a car here no one would recognize, so… I’m going to take you home.”

“Are you sure? What if-”
