“Thank you so much, sir,” I said gratefully to the chauffeur as the car rolled to a gentle stop in front of Father’s house. He bowed politely in response.
I sighed, standing outside for a moment, watching the car drive away. I steadied myself, drawing a deep breath, then turned just as the front door opened.
Kashi stood in the doorway, looking at me. A wide, happy grin spread across my face. I rushed straight into his arms, and he hugged me tightly.
“My God, I missed you,” he murmured into my hair before pulling me farther inside. “How was the donation?”
t fine,” I replied as we made our way through the hall and into the living room.
ers were there. Hasn’t it aired on the news yet?”
d,” he said. “But I think Alpha Ruis, the chairman of Godlike Legal Empire, the one funding most of it didn’t want too much exposure. Cameras on the less fortunate can srespectful.”
aused to consider that and nodded in quiet respect.
“That’s… thoughtful of him.”
“Very,” Kashi agreed, guiding me fully into the living room.
I slowed at the sight of Eshan on the couch. Mirena was just emerging from the kitchen with a glass of water.
I grinned in greeting. They exchanged quick glances among themselves before Mirena sighed almost in relief.
“Guess you’re doing well. We were worried.”
Hearing that, I paused, confused for a second until it clicked. I’d completely forgotten the ugly incident from yesterday morning before I left.
I sighed shakily, plastering another smile on my face before looking around.
“Is Dove’s mom here? She told me she was invited to the Thanksgiving party by Dad.”

“Um… no,” Kashi murmured softly. I turned to him in surprise. “Actually, we didn’t end up holding the Thanksgiving party.”
I frowned immediately.
“What?”
Silence settled heavily in the living room, making my heart sink.
“Please don’t tell me you canceled because of me.”
Eshan sighed, eyes fixed on the TV, while Kashi settled onto the couch.
“Viviana apologized,” Mirena said gently. “But her words… they’re hard to forgive. I told her I don’t support reopening old wounds, but she’s genuinely sorry. We just couldn’t lift the mood after that, so Father canceled the party altogether.”
I nodded in response to her explanation and offered a small, appreciative smile.
Just then, the sound of a door opening and closing echoed from the hall. Footsteps approached, and she emerged into the living room.
Viviana.
She paused upon seeing me. Tension flared instantly. Time seemed to slow, almost stop. She looked at me with a soft, apologetic expression and for a moment, I almost believed it.
“You’re here, Snow,” she said at last, smiling gently. “Welcome.”
A lump rose in my throat at her words. I could feel every eye on me, waiting for my response. I knew it would cause a scene if I didn’t reply.
I nodded and forced a small smile before turning to Mirena.
“Please, is Roc in?”
“Yeah. With Sera.”
“Oh, great. I should go thank Sera for the meal she packed. Cupid and I really enjoyed it.”
I headed to the kitchen first to set down the food containers, planning to wash them after my bath.
As I moved to leave the kitchen, I found Viviana blocking the way. This corner was secluded from the living room so no one could see us.

Strangely, and terrifyingly, I felt a flicker of fear being alone with her. Panic, perhaps. Trauma.
She was the woman who had once ordered me raped mercilessly… and stabbed repeatedly. Of course she could and would do worse.
I tried to bypass her. Her voice stopped me, soft as a question.
“Shouldn’t you head back to the pack now?”
I froze, turning slowly to face her.
“What?”
She sighed softly.
“This is my home, not yours. You’re a Mooncrest. Why don’t you return to the pack? We exchanged homes almost five years ago even before you were raped, remember?”
I blinked rapidly at her deliberate mention of the rape, stepping back instinctively. She was deliberately thrusting into that old wound because she knew it hurt.
I walked away quickly, passing through the living room toward my bedroom and closing the door behind me, heart pounding.
Raped. Yes. That night, forced to the cold, hard ground and used.
Dread clawed at my chest as the memories resurfaced. Immense sadness weighed me down.
I moved away from the door, intending to shower, when a sight stopped me cold.
he dress, the one Cupid had bought me, the one I’d worn to court the day I was declared free from Ares lay in tatters inside the wastebasket.
Cold dread descended fully.
Slowly, I approached, picking up the shredded fabric. A card fluttered to the floor.
My H.O.W.L. card, the one Sera’s father had given me, marking me as a member of H.O.W.L staff and profiler.
It was snapped in half, my name scratched out viciously.
I stared into the basket again, the ruined dress cutting deeper than any blade.
Without a word, I gathered the pieces and headed to Father’s room but he wasn’t home. By the

I knocked once. No answer. I knocked again.

I waited, fighting for air, until the door opened. Roc stood there, taking me in and froze.
“Snow…”
“It’s her. It’s… her, Roc.”
