Under the cloudy sky, I had arrived here and sat waiting for him. I told myself what I found odd was only that it seemed we would be having rain despite the fact that it was winter but deep down, I knew that wasn’t the only thing I found odd.
What else I found odd was the fact that… that Father would choose Viviana over me. More than that, he would make a statement emphasizing Viviana as the true–blooded daughter.
I lowered my gaze to my fingers to see how white they had gone. After the statement, I had simply gone back to my bedroom to pack the necessary things for the charity event, saying I would keep in touch after completing the charity work.
Anything but going back to the pack was what I needed now. That pack, Mooncrest, was tied to my trauma in a very strong way. It was nearer to the place I had been slit open.
If ever my eyes fell on that exact spot this time, I might as well go crazy.
I leaned back on the couch silently when the sound of approaching footsteps came. I lifted my gaze to the door and watched the knob turn.
He appeared in the entrance quietly, and merely staring at his face brought me more relief than I had ever thought I’d feel in my entire life.
Staring at him, I realized that truth. I was relying on Cupid too much, far more than I should.
He left the entrance and closed in on me quietly, his eyes on my face as worry clouded his features.
“You look so pale,” he murmured as he sat beside me, taking me into his arms.
I melted literally into his embrace, resting my head on him.
“I’m fine now that you’re here,” I said, but deep down, I knew it wasn’t true. I couldn’t stand on my own. I felt dizzy and sad and in pain.
He pulled back gently to search my eyes, and I could tell he didn’t believe my assurance either. Tenderly, he placed his lips on my temple. When he looked back at me, I allowed the sad tears to cloud my eyes.
I wondered what I’d do without him. I just didn’t know.

“Who brought you here?” he asked curiously.
:
I sighed shakily, sudden cold driving into my veins.
“I took a taxi.”

He looked at me in silence for a long time, without scolding. I knew on a day when I was healthy he would have snapped, but in this moment, he didn’t.
“Cupid, I brought my drugs. The hospital gave them to me to use for a few days, and… and my dad said I should go back to Mooncrest, but I think we should finish the charity event first before I do. What do you think?”
Following my words was a wave of sadness across his face. It was as though he already knew this would happen. Then he nodded, glancing briefly at the bag before turning back to me.
“How about we go to my loft? Shut everyone out. Let me take care of you, and once you we’ll step back into the city?”
I smiled, small and tired.
“Even better,” I murmured.
“Let me get some papers, and we’ll be out of here,” he said, gently leaning me back on the couch to make me comfortable.
heal,
I watched him gather items from his desk, turn off the telephone on the table, and close his laptop. He packed some stacks of documents and walked back to me next. He took my bag and gently extended his palm.
I accepted it gently, allowing him to pull me up. He led me without words out of the club.
When we reached his car, he reached for the door handle to open it, when some ladies ahead looked at him once and giggled in awe.
“He’s the one. I told you he frequents here,” one of them said before they came over, extending a picture of Cupid modeling for him to sign. “Please, Cupid, can you sign our… please?”
In response, Cupid sidestepped them and opened the car door for me to settle in. He waited for me to get comfortable before closing the door.
Then he came around to settle behind the wheel, placing the documents and my bag in the backseat while I watched him in silence.

“You shouldn’t be rude to your fans, Cupid,” I murmured softly. “You should have signed it.”
“I’m not in model mode right now, love,” he said softly, the lovely name he addressed me with rolling out like a normal thing, as he reached to hook my seatbelt.
He turn to his window where the ladies are still waiting and he reach out to do their bidding. Only for me to get suddenly jealous when they gave him a grin. I look away to steady myself and I felt him nearer. I turn to see his face too close.
His lips hovered on mine for a brief moment before he pulled back to rake his fingers through his hair and focus on the drive, as though he hadn’t just called me a pet name or just tease me with a kiss.
I looked at him from where I sat, studying and wondering what exactly I was to this man. Why he came once I called, why he had been so kind to me. Why a man could be this perfect.
“We’ll grab some groceries at the store to sustain us,” he said. “We’ll get your prescriptions too.”
The words slipped out, and I gathered the puzzle, making it click.
“You know that my illness has worsened?” I asked.
He kept his gaze on the road, as though unable to make eye contact.
“I eavesdropped on your dad and the doctor’s words,” he replied softly. “It’s a bad habit, not proud of it, but… I had to know what’s wrong with you.”
I looked at him from where I sat, lump rising in my throat as I dared to ask.
“And you’ll give me that?”
I saw him swallow, but he kept his eyes on the road.
“You are special to me,” he said quietly. “I’ll do anything to make you get well.”
