“Why is she so beautiful?” Cupid’s mother asked, beaming with uncontainable joy. Her voice trembled slightly, as though she couldn’t quite believe what she was seeing.
She sighed shakily, pressing a hand to her chest to relax. Then she said.
“I’ve made dinner. You all should come now.”
Cupid nodded once, a small, private smile curving his lips. His mother rose on tiptoe and kissed his cheek with fierce tenderness.
“You did well,” she whispered, eyes shining.
With that, she turned and disappeared down the hallway toward the kitchen, leaving a soft trail of warmth in her wake.
I watched her go until she vanished around the corner, heart twisting with sudden fear.
Would she still look at me like that, with such open delight if she knew the full truth?
If she knew the blood, the scars, the nights I still woke gasping from nightmares of knives and hands that wouldn’t let go?
As though he could feel the shadow passing over me, Cupid turned fully toward me. His hands slid around my waist, gentle, possessive, grounding. He searched my eyes, reading every flicker of doubt, every hidden wound.
Tenderly, he leaned in and brushed his lips against mine.
The kiss was soft at first, reassuring, reverent then deepened, slow and consuming. My heart nearly burst at the purity of the love in his gaze.
I rested my palm on his chest, feeling the steady thunder of his heartbeat beneath my fingers, then slid both arms around his neck and pulled myself closer.
He held me like I was something sacred, arms protective, body a shield, breath warm against my temple. I let myself steal his strength for just a moment, melting into him until the world felt smaller, safer.
Quietly, I drew back just enough to kiss him lightly. Once, twice on the lips.
“You don’t mind if I stay overnight, right?” I whispered.
He scoffed softly, “You think my mom will let you go tonight? You’re staying.”
I smiled, small, real and lost myself in his green eyes for a heartbeat.
Then I noticed Dove.

She had already claimed a spot on the couch, legs tucked beneath her, watching television like she belonged there. I couldn’t believe how quickly she’d made herself at home.
“You’ve met Dove, right?” I asked Cupid.
He glanced over briefly. Dove bowed her head in greeting. Cupid returned the nod, polite, brief before turning back to me.
“Yeah.”
He pulled away gently and faced Desmond, who stood by the window like a silent sentinel.
“Keep the tab on Almira running,” Cupid said.
“She’s okay?” Desmond asked, curiosity sharpening his tone.
Cupid raked a hand through his hair. “She’s at her mother’s house I’ve got a bad feeling.”
I frowned, watching as Desmond nodded once.
“I’ll inform the system to keep full surveillance on the property,” he said.
“Twenty–four seven. Dad’s order. Notify me immediately if anything feels off.”
“Got it, boss.”
Desmond pulled out his phone and stepped toward the hallway to make calls.
I paused, marveling quietly. They spoke in half–sentences, cryptic references, codes I couldn’t quite decipher but the weight of them was clear.
Almira was under constant watch. I wondered how she’d feel if she knew.
The sound of footsteps descending the stairs pulled my attention.;
Marlik appeared,
His hair was disheveled, shirt slightly wrinkled, eyes shadowed with exhaustion. He paused at the bottom of the stairs when he saw me then slowly shifted his gaze to Cupid.
“How’s Yasmin?” Cupid asked.
“Asleep,” Marlik replied wearily. “You got a cigarette?”
Cupid pulled a pack from his pocket. Marlik took one, grossed to the couch, only to pause and snitt.
“What’s that smell? You perceive that?”
Cupid shakes his head, curious. “Like an Omega.”
Hearing that, I shift my gaze to Dove. She is the omega here but why is her scent bothering Marlik so

much.
Marlik followed my gaze and sigh shakily, frowning a bit.
“She have such a strong scent.”
“I can’t hear anything.” Cupid murmurs but Marlik didn’t speak anymore.

He walk over to sit a careful distance from Dove who glance his way casually only to went utterly still, eyes wide, flicking between me and Marlik in silent accusation,
I hadn’t told her the full story.
That Marlik was Cupid’s chosen brother. That this was his home.
Dove rose slowly after stealing a few secret glances at Marlik. The man paid her no attention, focused only on tapping a cigarette against the pack, preparing to light it.
“I… I think I should get going, Snow,” she said, approaching me. “You too.”
Cupid looked at me, waiting for my answer.
